PowerPlay online casino faces a wealth of competition in Canada, but after thoroughly testing this no-nonsense operator myself, I can confidently say it more than holds its own against the province’s biggest brands.

It was clear from the outset that PowerPlay emphasizes functionality and a user-first approach with its clean layout, top-down trio of horizontal menu bars and high-quality software. It didn’t matter if I wanted a bigger screen or something smaller, as my online gaming experience was smooth and consistent across the mobile app and desktop site.

This made exploring PowerPlay’s 1,200+ game library – and strong selection of 90+ live dealer games – a breeze. As a live dealer enthusiast, I was really pleased with this offering, particularly Quantum Blackjack Plus and its futuristic set design.

For me, the MVP of PowerPlay casino wasn’t a specific function, but how easily I could switch platforms and devices and still have everything plainly visible, loading and performing efficiently. In my experience, you don’t always find that cross-platform functionality but on PowerPlay, you do.

Sure, its game catalogue could be a bit bigger and I would have liked to test some titles with a demo option, but PowerPlay has plenty working its favour. The question now is whether PowerPlay has the right stuff for you – find out in my full review and learn about how we rank the best online casinos.

My Experience with PowerPlay Casino

PowerPlay Casino isn’t going to waste your time with unnecessary bells and whistles, and I find that a very good thing.

Whether on the mobile app or desktop and website browsers, everything I needed was right in front of me.

A trio of horizontal menu bars – each with great contrast – made selecting my vertical (e.g., casino, sportsbook), game categories and specific titles incredibly easy. There was no Easter egg hunt needed for anything.

This rang especially true during the deposit and withdrawal process. While the options on both sides are modest compared to competitors, the act of funding my account and later retrieving my winnings was remarkably efficient.

Game mechanics were smooth. There were no lags, glitches or impediments interrupting gameplay. Overall, PowerPlay has plenty going for it.

Overall Product Rating & Key Takeaways

  • Our rating: 4.1/5
  • User ratings: 3.8 on App Store | 3.9 on Google Play

It was crystal clear off the bat that visibility and efficiency are key tenets at PowerPlay Casino. In my opinion, casinos that rely too heavily on visuals, carousels and overly complex colour schemes to emphasize uniqueness often falter where it really matters. PowerPlay Casino understands that a little restraint can go a long way.

The slot selection is moderate but competitive, and there are a few titles from big-name providers like Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech. For me, as someone who fancies live dealer action, I found the majority of live dealers to be engaging and pleasant.

A few other elements stood out to me during my PowerPlay online casino review:

  • Streamlined account verification
  • Instant deposits with low minimum ($10)
  • Toll-free phone support
  • Efficient and effective live chat support
  • Official partner of the Ottawa Blackbears (National Lacrosse League)
  • User-friendly app and websites (desktop & mobile)
  • Competitive live dealer offering (90-plus games)
  • Straightforward registration and ID verification process
  • Commonly quick withdrawal time (<4 hours)
  • Phone customer support available
  • Smaller game library than competitors
  • Limited withdrawal options

Where I Found PowerPlay Casino Available

I explored PowerPlay Casino from Toronto, Ontario, where I was able to enjoy the platform in its entirety. PowerPlay is licensed by iGaming Ontario and operates under the strict oversight of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

The PowerPlay app is accessible in other Canadian provinces but those versions of the platform are not regulated by iGaming Ontario. Instead, they operate under a license granted by the Government of Curacao.

This means the user-interface, games, payment methods, etc., on PowerPlay Casino Ontario may differ from what’s available to players in other provinces.

Navigating PowerPlay Casino: My Impressions of the Platform

My time with PowerPlay Casino began with a perusal of the platform’s website – desktop and browser – and mobile app. For me, getting familiar with an online casino’s layout, features and overall presentation always comes before depositing or playing.

While I wasn’t blown away by any standout design elements (often, a good thing), I was instantly impressed by PowerPlay’s user-first interface. Between the website and app presentations, it’s clear that organization and accessibility were points of emphasis.

Desktop Experience

Leading with the layout, PowerPlay keeps things clean and predictable. By that, I mean you don’t need to play ‘Where’s Waldo?’ to find what you’re after. And if you really want to get away from red, you can switch the background colour to dark by clicking the toggle switch labelled “Red” in the top right corner.

PowerPlay Desktop Experience

The desktop homepage follows a top-down structure where the vertical or category (e.g., support) sits at the very top of the page. Directly below that, you will find the first horizontal menu bar, which highlights the types of casino games available on PowerPlay.

There is then a second menu bar underneath the first, which lists specific game types and allows you to jump down page to specific categories (e.g., popular slots) at the click of a button.

Each button, from top to bottom, took me to the accompanying space without lag. All games, including live blackjack and roulette, operated seamlessly. I was able to move between live games efficiently and effectively (and that’s a big win for a guy whose laptop could be in middle school right now).

PowerPlay Desktop Experience Search Bar

I also found the search bar above the game menu quite useful. As an enjoyer of the ‘Buffalo’ family of slot titles, a simple entry of “Buf” was all it took to summon the whole lot.

The deposit and profile section is found in the top right corner. You can deposit by clicking your profile icon or the big green “Deposit” button to its left. I opted for the big green button and it took me right to all the available payment options.

Bottom line: My PowerPlay Casino desktop experience was smooth and straightforward.

Mobile App Experience

PowerPlay Casino’s effective desktop product translates well to its mobile channels. While the features are all the same, there is a slight differentiation between the mobile app and browser layouts.

Starting with the mobile app, I was able to enter the casino section by clicking the poker chip icon on the bottom of the screen. It took me immediately to the casino, where all the game categories were familiarly located atop the page.

PowerPlay mobile app Top lists page PowerPlay Mobile app experience Menu page Withdraw Deposit

On the mobile website, however, the game categories live in a hamburger button (☰) in the top left of the screen. Now, it didn’t take much detective work, but it is a noticeable departure in consistency from the app and desktop sites.

PowerPlay Mobile Website experienceLoading games was seamless on both wi-fi and cellular data. I played two hands of live baccarat and three spins of Pragmatic Play’s Sweet Bonanza – once on the app using wi-fi then data and again on the mobile site – and noticed no difference in game efficacy.

The PowerPlay Casino scores a modest 3.8/5 on the Apple App Store. It grades marginally better on Google Play with a 3.9/5. It’s not the most comprehensive casino app I’ve ever used, but it’s worth at least four stars, in my opinion.

PowerPlay slot games - Starburst, Cannonball Riches, 1k Yeti, 3 Secret Cities, Gonzo's Quest, 3 Lucky Witches, Gorilla Kingdom, Jumanji, 4 Fantastic Lobsters, 4 Secret Pyramids, Cosmic Cash by Pragmatic Play, Bomb Bonanza by Pragmatic Play, Sugar Rush by Pragmatic Play, Big Bass by Pragmatic Play, 5 Doggy Dollars, 6 Wild Sharks, 90k Yeti

Slots account for nearly half of PowerPlay Casino’s total game library with 500+ total titles. Among those, you will find games from top providers like Pragmatic Play, Evolution, Microgaming, Play N Go and Playtech. The menu bar on the slots page features many of these studios, if there’s a particular one you’re after.

I tried my luck with a handful of titles on PowerPlay Casino, including:

  • Sweet Bonanza: Somewhat like Candy Crush for adults, Sweet Bonanza is a colourful, candy-themed slot with tumbling reels and cluster wins. I spun five times, watching fruits and sweets cascade across the screen, and scored one small payout. I almost got into the bonus round on spin four, but came one lollipop short. How cruel.
  • Cash Volt: A straightforward, tidy slot based around collecting volt symbols for prize triggers. While I didn’t strike it rich on Cash Volt, I did enjoy seeing the lightning-like lines connect on a small winner.
  • Big Bass Bonanza: A classic slot for me, Big Bass Bonanza from Pragmatic Play leans into its fishing theme with simple base play, an exciting free spins feature and expanding multiplier as you reel in more fish.
  • Buffalo King: An interesting high-volatility option, I find Buffalo King’s visuals very clean and sharp. I didn’t score this time, but it was still nice to hear that signature Western tune in the background.

Jackpots are pretty limited on PowerPlay Casino, so you might have to look elsewhere on that front. Otherwise, I appreciated how smooth the game mechanics were on the titles I tested.

PowerPlay Table Games - Sic Bac, Craps, Sic Bo, VIP Auto Roulette, Speed Auto Roulette, DragonTiger, Blackjack, Treasure Island

PowerPlay Casino features all the core table and live dealer games players look for. Like with slots, the overall depth of the game selection here is lighter than other operators, but the quality shines through.

For what it’s worth, it’s easy to peruse the table and live dealer catalogue, even with no sub-categories or advanced filters, as all options are accessible with a simple tap and tight vertical swipe.

On the table games side, you will find many options with hands or spins starting at or below $1. Popular options at PowerPlay include Dragon Tiger Poker, Classic Blackjack, Sic Bo, French Roulette and Baccarat.

At 90+ games, the live dealer offering at PowerPlay checks in on the lower end of the industry standard. However, I was able to interact with a few and was quite impressed.

Quantum Blackjack Plus felt like what I imagine a casino would look like in a TRON movie. And unlike TRON: Ares, it plays as good as it looks.

Even something more traditional like Pragmatic Play’s live blackjack felt very immersive. Sound and picture quality was excellent and that lent to a pleasant experience.

I was not able to find any exclusive games during my dissection of PowerPlay online casino. What I did find, though, was a section dedicated to new games. There were 15 titles, mostly either slots or blackjack, but it did tell me that PowerPlay is at least making an effort to cycle in some new options.

And not every casino offers exclusives, so I don’t personally view it as a negative.

Finding the few specialty games PowerPlay does provide isn’t as streamlined as I would have liked. I had to search for each game, for example, bingo, mines and crash options, individually. There is no icon for specialty games on PowerPlay, but my search yielded modest results for those exact three categories: bingo, mines and crash.

There aren’t any scratchcards or keno games on PowerPlay, at least, I couldn’t find any. Maybe you will have better luck.

Deposits & Withdrawals

PowerPlay Casino keeps its list of available payment options tight, but still offers flexibility with several core options.

In this section, I’m going to walk you through my experience moving money to and from my PowerPlay account. Spoiler, it was a largely positive one.

Deposit Options

Typically, I favour Interac and Visa for deposits, and that’s what I did again here. Both were processed instantly and came with no associated fees. In addition to Interac and Visa, you can also deposit using:

  • Mastercard
  • MuchBetter
  • PaysafeCard

The minimum deposit for all of these payment methods is $10. The maximums will vary, but Visa, Mastercard and MuchBetter have the highest of $5,000 and Paysafecard the lowest of $250.

Accessing your deposits is very easy with the green wallet icon in the top right corner, or through your personal profile. With the latter, you can track your incoming and outgoing payment history, which I highly recommend you do.

PowerPlay also requires you to complete all Know Your Customer verification before depositing a single cent. You should always verify your account at sign-up anyway, but doing it here with my driver’s license (in less than two minutes) made moving money in and out of my account expeditious and hassle-free.

Withdrawal Process

My time with PowerPlay online casino helped me put a $23.54 dent in my Aston Martin fund – but first I needed to withdraw my winnings.

There are two deposit options on PowerPlay – Interac and MuchBetter – each carrying a minimum of $10 and maximum of $3,000. However, the two come with drastically different payout speeds.

Interac withdrawals are paid out within four hours (which I can confirm) while MuchBetter withdrawals take 3-5 business days.

With MuchBetter essentially off the table, I opted for Interac. My payout request was confirmed nearly instantly and I received my funds in about two hours and 30 minutes. That’ll do.

PowerPlay does not charge a fee on deposits, but it does charge a 3% fee on withdrawals under $100.

Payment Security & Regulations

With a license to operate in Ontario, PowerPlay follows the province’s extensive player safety and responsible gambling guidelines. Among them being:

  • Advanced SSL encryption, which protects private information exchanged over the internet.
  • KYC verification before your first deposit.
  • An array of responsible gambling tools and resources, including deposit and loss limits, session timers, timeouts, self-exclusion, account closure and links to third-party support organizations.
  • Tight iGaming Ontario oversight to ensure regulatory compliance

For me, the regulatory backing plus a familiar selection of trusted payment options made the deposit and withdrawal process at PowerPlay feel safe and predictable. It certainly compares well in this regard to other leading online casinos I’ve used.

My Experience with Customer Support

PowerPlay offers four customer support options for players to choose from. They are:

  • FAQ
  • 24/7 live chat
  • Email (PowerPlay will acknowledge your email submission within 48 hours)
  • Phone call

Since live chats are the most commonly used support feature, that’s where I turned for my inquiry.

Using the PowerPlay app, I clicked the ‘Menu’ icon in the bottom right corner. That launched my profile, where I selected the ‘Support’ tab with a green ‘Online’ banner beside it. From there, I chose the live chat option and entered my query (see screenshots below).

PowerPlay Live Chat - Can I play a demo version of certain games on PowerPlay for free before playing for money?
PowerPlay Live Chat
PowerPlay Live Chat - Is there anything else that I can assist you with? That's okay. Thank you for checking - are there any fees for deposits or withdrawals?
PowerPlay Live Chat - One moment please. There is a fee if your withdrawal is under 100$ the fee is 3% but for deposits there are no fees.
PowerPlay Live Chat - That's good to now. Thank you for looking into it.
PowerPlay Live Chat - Connected with Rick. No we do not provide such features in our platform.

In less than five seconds, I was connected to an agent, Rick. It took Rick about 10 seconds to follow up on my initial query regarding demo game options at PowerPlay. He then provided an answer that, no, PowerPlay does not offer demo features – without any additional prompting – in about 30 seconds.

Rick then asked if there was anything else he could assist me with, and I followed up with a second question about fees on deposits and withdrawals at PowerPlay. This time it took about two minutes to retrieve an answer, but it was useful because the answer was yes (see section and chart above for specifics).

All in all, my two-question live chat session took about seven minutes.

Rick, the agent, was polite, responsive and helpful. The chat software functioned well with no lag. However, there was one notable omission from the chat feature. Most online casinos offer stock question bubbles within chats to guide a conversation, but PowerPlay does not.

So, if you’re going to use the 24/7 live chat at PowerPlay, be prepared to lead the conversation, at least initially.

I’ve gone ahead and prepared a chart detailing how PowerPlay Casino’s customer support menu stacks up to other leading sites. As you can see below, it’s nothing fancy, but it offers all the basic components – and a little bit more.

How PowerPlay Casino Stacks Up Against Competitors

PowerPlay Casino relies on a clean layout and high-functioning software to amplify player experience across devices. Whether on mobile or desktop, PowerPlay’s user-friendliness translates seamlessly.

While its game library doesn’t boast the same depth and breadth as bigger name competitors, PowerPlay’s appeal lies within a straightforward, no-nonsense online casino experience.

My Key Takeaways

Visibility was the leading trait during my PowerPlay online casino review. Everything from game menus and titles to my wallet and customer support was in plain view, exactly where I expected it to be, on both the mobile app and desktop site. In other words, PowerPlay was consistent across all platforms.

The sign-up and account verification process was smooth and efficient. The fact that PowerPlay requires you to satisfy KYC protocols before depositing is a big draw for me, not a deterrent. I believe it shows that an operator takes its regulatory obligations seriously.

PowerPlay’s game library won’t be the most expansive one you encounter, but it still offers a satisfying selection of slots from leading providers and an industry competitive live dealer offering of 90+ games. There’s not much by way of specialty games, and nothing in terms of exclusives, but PowerPlay is constantly adding new games to keep things fresh.

There’s no official loyalty program, either, which is a bit disappointing. Although, it’s not much of a drawback for me because some VIP and loyalty programs require pretty hefty investments to reap anything of real value.

The customer support menu at PowerPlay is solid in depth. I found the 24/7 live chat very easy to use with fairly quick turnaround times and satisfying answers. Depositing and withdrawing money was a breeze, too. I don’t love the 3% fee on withdrawals under $100 but the payout speed for Interac is reliable.

Who Should Play Here?

PowerPlay is built for players who prioritize a low-fuss platform and not something propped up by bells and whistles.

Menus for the vertical, game types, and game titles are well-organized and prominently featured. Games load quickly and perform effectively on both wi-fi and cellular data, and there are several built-in responsible gambling tools offering a variety of services.

I see PowerPlay as a platform for mobile-first users, although I may be biased on account of my aged laptop. Be that as it may, PowerPlay does perform exceptionally well on mobile phones and tablets.

My Closing Thoughts

There’s a lot to like about PowerPlay Casino. Whether on mobile or desktop, it offers one of the more straightforward and intuitive online gaming experiences in Canada.

It blends a clean design with an effective colour scheme that highlights what PowerPlay has to offer rather than distracting from it with over-the-top icons, images and flashy palettes. I found this consistency carried over regardless of the platform or device I was using and that smoothened the acclimation period for me.

The sign-up process took less than five minutes, and that’s factoring in identity verification. From there, adding funds into my account was a breeze and very easy to keep track of. Withdrawal options are definitely limited – it’s basically just Interac unless you have 3-5 business days to spare for MuchBetter – but payout speed was quick, as advertised.

PowerPlay’s game catalogue is very much quality over quantity. It’s not a surplus, or even a cornucopia for that matter, but the slot, table game and live dealer essentials give PowerPlay’s library a strong foundation for habitual players and some longevity for more curious ones.

Overall, PowerPlay is straightforward, predictable and steady, and it never pretends to be anything otherwise. This reliability makes it a user-first, user-friendly platform that doesn’t ask players to jump through unnecessary hoops in pursuit of what we all strive for: a positive gaming experience.
