Connecticut Sports Betting Bonuses

Connecticut will launch three online sportsbooks – FanDuel, DraftKings, and SugarHouse. The launch date for Connecticut sports betting has been a moving target, from early September to October 7 as a launch date. After Governor Ned Lamont publicly disclosed the October 7 date, though, the chairman of the Connecticut Lottery suggested sports betting could go through a soft launch even before that date. Bettors can expect some of the best Connecticut sports betting bonuses any day now.

Connecticut’s Legal Online Sportsbook Apps

Connecticut bettors will have access to some of the most credible and safest sportsbooks. These are the three sportsbooks that will launch in the state:

Connecticut’s Online Sportsbook Bonuses September 2021

Although Connecticut sports betting won’t go live until later this fall, bettors should understand what sportsbook bonuses and promotions will be advertised to them. Bettors will be bombarded with large dollar amounts but may be surprised at how little they can reap from poorly understood bonuses. Here are the sportsbook bonuses Connecticut bettors will see when sports betting goes live.

SugarHouse Connecticut

  • Best for Deposit Bonus offer
  • Available as an Apple iOS app, Android app, and via desktop
  • Strong live bet and “buy out” options

Claim up to a $250 deposit match bonus with our SugarHouse Promo Code: PLAY250

The Connecticut Lottery announced a partnership with SugarHouse on September 16, 2021. SugarHouse Sportsbook features an above-average sign-on bonus and strong odds against vig compared to many other sportsbooks. App speed and customizable options hold this sportsbook back from its competitors, but since it’s expanding in the US, we may see improvements in the near future. The PlaySugarHouse brand is owned by Rush Street Interactive, which operates the BetRivers Sportsbook brand in other states and PlaySugarHouse in New Jersey

FanDuel Connecticut

  • Best for a $1,000 risk-free bet refunded as betting credits
  • Available as an Apple iOS app, Android app, and via desktop
  • Extensive coverage and market variety

Claim promo offer with our exclusive link at FanDuel

In June 2021, FanDuel announced a partnership with Mohegan Sun to launch its Connecticut sports betting app. FanDuel offers a $1,000 risk-free bet for new bettors. However, that risk-free bet isn’t quite risk-free. First, bettors must place a wager with their own money. Then if they lose, FanDuel will credit bettors’ accounts with site credits equal to the amount bettors lost, up to $1,000. Those site credits can only be used for more betting, so this bonus isn’t awarding free cash.

FanDuel has an app on the App Store and the Google Play Store. Bettors can bet at FanDuel’s website, too. FanDuel has competitive odds on underdogs, so bettors betting on the underdog should consider a FanDuel account.

DraftKings Connecticut

  • Best for experienced sports bettors due to 20% deposit match up to $1,000 with 5x playthrough
  • Available as an Apple iOS app, Android app, and via desktop
  • Huge bonuses and payouts

Claim promo offer with our exclusive link at DraftKings

Deposit $5 or more to receive a $50 free bet with our exclusive offer. That’s like a 1,000% deposit match credited as a free bet, which is one of the most generous online sports betting welcome bonuses.

Then new players can receive a 20% deposit match up to $1,000 with the standard welcome bonus offer. If you plan on betting at DraftKings Sportsbook for the long term, then you’ll probably benefit from opting into both offers. Terms and conditions apply.

Bettors will find the DraftKings app on the App Store and Google Play Store. They’ll also be able to wager on DraftKings’ website in an internet browser. DraftKings’ game lines tend to have the best odds on favorites to win so bettors should consider DraftKings when they’re betting on the favorite. DraftKings is partnered with Foxwoods Resort Casino to bring its app to Connecticut.

Connecticut Sportsbook Bonuses

As bettors have noticed, there are a few different types of bonuses. Here’s what bettors need to know about all of them.

Deposit Bonuses

Deposit bonuses reward bettors for their first deposits and their subsequent betting activity. They look flashy, but bettors must make their first deposits large enough to qualify for the bonus’ full value. Then, bettors must wager enough to receive the number of site credits they want. Deposit bonuses buffer sports bettors’ accounts. They’re small rewards over time instead of large rewards upfront. Many also have to be redeemed within 30-60 days. So, bettors shouldn’t fall for any suspiciously generous advertising.

Risk-Free Bets

Risk-free bets reward bettors for making large wagers upfront. If bettors lose their first wagers, they get site credits in their account equal to the amount they lost up to the advertised amount. But if bettors win, they get no bonus. Winnings are cash that can be withdrawn while site credits must be used for betting. Winning a big bet upfront is a better bonus than anything sportsbooks offer. So, bettors lucky enough to win a big bet early should feel luckier than a bonus winner.

No-Deposit Bonuses

No-deposit bonuses are the most honestly advertised sportsbook bonuses. They’re small amounts of site credits that sportsbooks deposit into bettor accounts after bettors complete registration. They’re usually $10-50, so they’re nothing worth basing betting strategies around. Sportsbooks use these to motivate bettors to try betting, so bettors will spend more money chasing a big win.

Loyalty Programs

Some sportsbooks offer loyalty programs. As bettors wager, they earn rewards points that unlock new sportsbook features or contribute to casino loyalty programs. SugarHouse unlocks new sportsbook features. If bettors wager the same amounts of money consistently, then they can get a lot out of loyalty programs.

Sports That Connecticut Bettors Can Wager On

When sports betting goes live in Connecticut, bettors will have many sports to wager on. Here are the most common types that bettors will see at most major sportsbook brands.

Connecticut Sports Teams

The only professional team in the state is the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, but that doesn’t mean the Sun are the only team followed by Connecticut residents.

In fact, it’s easy for Connecticut residents to keep up with pro teams located in Boston to the north and New York to the west. Both cities feature some high-profile teams such as the New England Patriots, New York Giants, New York Jets, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and New York Mets.

Professional Sports

Professional sports form the core of any licensed sportsbook. These consist of mainstream sports like the Big Four: football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. They also include sports like soccer, which has widespread international appeal. Since professional leagues are so popular, they’re the easiest for sportsbooks to offer and among the most profitable to offer.

College Sports

College sports come in second to professional sports. They’re available in most states, but Connecticut bettors will not be able to bet on college teams based in the state unless they are in bracket events such as March Madness.

International Sports

Sportsbooks offer international leagues on many popular sports, especially soccer. However, large sportsbooks will also offer lines on popular international sports like Australian rules football. Sports that are more popular abroad, like cricket, rugby, and darts, also get a lot of real estate in popular sportsbooks. These additional lines give bettors something to bet on whenever they open their sportsbooks. Offering international sports are great ways to ensure sportsbooks always have live betting available for bettors.

Esports

Most major sportsbook brands offer Esport lines when Esport leagues are in season. However, some states place restrictions on esports. Connecticut still has to decide whether Esports are worth restricting or whether sportsbooks can offer any Esport lines they’d like. Mainstream leagues that focus on games like CS:GO will likely be fair game for sportsbooks.

How To Register For Connecticut Sportsbook Accounts

Connecticut sportsbooks will be easy to create accounts for. Sportsbooks want to attract new bettors, and a simple signup process is one of the keys to that goal.

First, bettors will have to hit the register button and fill out three sections of information. That will cover bettors’ personal information, social security numbers, and account security measures. After that, bettors can make their first deposits. While deposit options vary across sportsbooks, bettors will find a few common deposit options almost everywhere:

  • Credit/Debit Card
  • Bank Transfer
  • Online Wallet
  • Cash

There are often several brands or services that will cover the same deposit methods. For example, PayPal and Skrill are two of the most common online wallets that can be used to make sportsbook deposits. Bettors can often make cash deposits through 7/11 partnerships or a service called Vanilla. However bettors want to deposit funds, there’s probably a deposit option available.

After that, bettors can make their first wagers. All bettors have to do is click on the odds they want to bet on, select their wager size, and confirm their bets. If bettors win, they’ll be able to withdraw their winnings from their accounts’ cashier sections. Withdrawal options are limited, but bank transfers and online wallets remain reliable options.

Connecticut Retail Sportsbooks

Connecticut residents will have up to 17 choices for placing sports bets in person at a retail casino.

The Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Resort Casino will each have one retail sportsbook. The Connecticut Lottery Corporation will be allowed to open up to 15 retail locations across the state.

Ten of those locations are in Stamford, Windsor Locks, New Haven, Hartford, Waterbury, Torrington, New Britain, Milford, Norwalk, and Manchester.

None of the Lottery’s locations will be allowed within 25 miles of either tribal casino. The Lottery’s goal is to have the retail locations spread out to the point that most Connecticut residents will not have to drive more than 30 minutes to place a bet in person.

There is nothing like the thrill of cheering for the team you bet on with and against other bettors in the same sportsbook, but it should be noted that the bonus offers given for online sportsbooks generally do not qualify for in-person bets.

Why Choose Legal Sportsbooks Over Illegal Sportsbooks

Legal sportsbooks are safer than illegal sportsbooks. Legal sportsbooks are subject to oversight that, done properly, ensures sportsbooks pay due winnings. Illegal sportsbooks have no such oversight and have little incentive to reliably pay bettors. It’s easier to lure unsuspecting bettors in with incredible odds and then refuse to pay winnings because of an illegitimate technicality. It makes bettors think they did something wrong and decreases the winnings that illegal sportsbooks pay.

If bettors get caught in a bind like this, there’s little they can do about it. Since they were gambling illegally, they often have no legal recourse against the illegal sportsbook that scammed them. Meanwhile, the illegal sportsbook continues operating with impunity until someone manages to shut it down.

Shutting down an illegal sportsbook can be tricky. Law enforcement may be able to pick up one or two bookies, but if the FBI shut down an illegal sports betting server in Connecticut, that illegal sportsbook could set itself back up in another state or another country. The disparate pieces of an illegal sportsbook make it challenging to eliminate.

That’s what makes competitive legal sportsbooks such a compelling solution to illegal sports betting. They’re safe, they’re fair, and they have guardrails that illegal sportsbooks not only lack, but ignore.

Connecticut Sportsbook Bonuses FAQs

How old do Connecticut sports bettors have to be?

21. Although Connecticut hasn’t set a sports betting age yet, in other states, it’s almost always the same age as the casino gambling age. Bettors in Connecticut must be at least 21 to participate in casino gambling. So, it’s a safe bet that bettors will have to be at least 21 to place sports wagers, too.

Are DraftKings and FanDuel legal in Connecticut?

Both FanDuel and DraftKings announced a partnership with a local Connecticut tribal casino operator, and they will launch on Oct. 7, 2021.

Can I sign up for a Connecticut sportsbook from outside the state?

Yes. Bettors will be able to create sportsbook accounts whether they’re in Connecticut or not. Account management functions are available wherever bettors are, giving them the freedom they need to manage important parts of their accounts.

Can I place bets outside of Connecticut?

If bettors are in a state with legal sports betting and licensed sportsbooks, then Connecticut bettors will still be able to place bets. But if bettors are in a state without legal sports betting, then bettors’ wagers won’t go through. Sportsbooks create geofences around the states they operate in to keep unauthorized bettors out.

Do I have to be a Connecticut resident to bet in Connecticut?

No. Bettors only have to be located in Connecticut to place bets in Connecticut. Once sports betting goes online, travelers to Connecticut will be able to bet in Connecticut. They’ll also be able to bet back home if they live in a state with legal sports betting.

What are the DraftKings and FanDuel welcome promos?

DraftKings offers a $1,000 deposit bonus with a 20% match rate. FanDuel offers a $1,000 risk-free bet. Both sportsbooks can change their welcome bonuses at any time. They could also launch exclusive promotions for Connecticut’s launch. But this is where both sports betting giants stand now.
