DraftKings has officially announced its intention to go live with sportsbook and casino products in Alberta. The news comes via a companywide press release on Monday.
July 13 Launch Date is the Goal
Pending final licensure and regulatory approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) commission, the Boston-based gaming giant plans to go live on the province’s July 13 launch date. Alberta would be the second Canadian province where DraftKings is operational (joining Ontario) and the 34th jurisdiction across North America. Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, expressed his excitement for the opportunity that awaits in the Alberta online casinos market.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” Karamitis said.
Karamitis noted that the timing is particularly strategic, as the launch is expected to align with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across North America—including matches in Canada.
“It’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform,” he added.
What this means for Albertans
If given the green light, eligible residents can already pre-register for DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino in anticipation of the mid-summer opening.
Industry analysts expect Alberta to become one of the most lucrative gaming markets per capita, bolstered by a young, sports-passionate population. For reference, Ontario processed over $82 billion in bets in 2025 alone.
DraftKings is already a household name in the province through its daily fantasy sports (DFS) offerings and its existing sportsbook and casino presence in Ontario, where it has operated since 2022.
On the responsible gaming front, DraftKings emphasized that its launch will include its full suite of safer-play tools, allowing users to set budgets and limits from day one.
