Alberta’s regulated online casino market is open. As of Monday, July 13, 2026, licensed real-money Alberta online casinos are live, making Alberta the second Canadian province after Ontario to allow multiple private operators to compete for players.
Roughly 50 operators completed registration ahead of the launch, so Albertans now have a regulated, taxed and monitored alternative to the offshore sites that have dominated the province for years. Here is what you need to know on day one.

Alberta Online Casinos Are Now Legal
For the first time, private companies can legally offer online casino games to Alberta residents who are 18 and over. The market runs on an open, competitive model similar to Ontario’s, rather than a single government-run site. That means real choice: multiple brands, multiple welcome offers, and competition on game selection, payouts and promotions.
The launch replaces a landscape where the province estimates unregulated operators captured around 70 percent of Alberta’s online gambling activity. The goal of the new framework is to pull that play onto licensed platforms where it can be monitored, taxed and made safer for players. For the finer print on what is and is not permitted, see our full guide to Alberta’s online gambling laws.
Which Operators Are Live at Launch
Around 50 operators registered before the market opened, including major names Albertans will recognize from Ontario and the U.S. Not every brand goes live at the same minute, and offers will change quickly in the opening days as operators compete for sign-ups. We are tracking who is live and what they are offering on our guide to the best Alberta online casinos, updated as the market settles.
Who Regulates the Alberta Market
Two bodies share oversight:
- Alberta iGaming Corporation is the new entity that runs the regulated market and operates the platform side of the launch.
- Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) sets and enforces the rules, handles operator and supplier registration, sets compliance standards and runs the centralized self-exclusion system. Every operator you can legally play at has completed registration and paid the required fees, so if a site is licensed in Alberta, it has cleared that bar.
Player Protections From Day One
Alberta built consumer safeguards into the launch rather than bolting them on later. From the market’s first day, players get:
- Centralized self-exclusion across all licensed operators, managed by AGLC, so a single request applies market-wide.
- Mandatory RG Check accreditation, an independent responsible-gambling standard operators must meet.
- Responsible gambling tools such as deposit limits, time limits and reality checks built into licensed platforms.
These protections are a core reason the province opened the market: regulated play is play that can be tracked and supported, which offshore sites do not offer.
How to Start Playing at an Alberta Online Casino
- Pick a licensed operator. Start from our list of vetted Alberta online casinos rather than a search result, so you know the site is regulated.
- Create an account and verify your identity. You must be 18 or older and a resident of Alberta. Licensed sites verify age and location as part of registration.
- Claim your welcome offer. Launch-week bonuses are competitive as operators fight for early sign-ups. You can compare casino bonuses in Canada to see which welcome offer is worth your first deposit.
- Download the app or play in-browser. Most operators offer both. See our roundup of the best Alberta casino apps for iOS and Android to play on mobile.
Wondering what happens if you win? How much you keep depends on the rules for recreational versus professional play, which we break down in our guide to gambling tax in Alberta.
Why the Alberta Launch Matters
Alberta is one of the strongest regional launches Canada has seen. The province has the youngest adult population, the highest per-capita GDP and the highest per-capita gambling spend in the country.
For comparison, Ontario’s regulated market handled billions in its first full year and grew sharply year over year. Alberta is a long-term growth market, not a short-lived novelty, and the opening days set the tone for which brands players stick with.
Alberta Online Casinos: The Bottom Line
The regulated market is live, roughly 50 operators are competing for players, and real consumer protections are in place from day one. If you are in Alberta and want to play, start with a licensed site, compare the launch bonuses, and take advantage of the responsible-gambling tools now built in.
We are updating our Alberta online casinos coverage throughout launch week as more operators go live and bonuses change.
Responsible gambling notice: Gambling can be addictive. Please play responsibly. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, help is available. You must be 18+ and located in Alberta to play at a licensed online casino.
