A tentative deal between Caesars Windsor and its unionized employees has averted a strike for the time being. The casino will continue business as usual while the union seeks approval from its members to finalize the agreement.

Workers set to walk off the job at 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning will now vote to ratify the agreement on a to-be-confirmed date. In the meantime, details of the tentative deal remain under wraps.

During negotiations, Unifor Local 444 president James Stewart told CBC that better pay was a critical priority for the union’s 1,400 casino employees.

Make no mistake, the monetary gains are probably a number one priority.

Most recently, a strike kept almost 2,000 Caesars Windsor workers off the job for 60 days in 2018.

Caesars Windsor’s president and CEO, Kevin Laforet, praised the union’s bargaining efforts in a statement.

We would like to commend Unifor Local 444 and the entire bargaining team for their respectful and productive efforts resulting in an agreement that is mutually beneficial for both parties.
