Flutter Entertainment is bringing PokerStars and FanDuel together under a single platform, combining online poker, casino gaming, and sports betting into one integrated experience.
More than a simple rebrand, the move positions Flutter to create one of the most comprehensive online gambling ecosystems in Canada at a time when competition between operators is intensifying and new regulated markets, like Alberta, are preparing to launch.
The newly branded “PokerStars Exclusively on FanDuel” officially launched across Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in April. The rollout gives Flutter Entertainment an opportunity to test and refine the combined product in the U.S. before expanding the model into Canada.
As stated by Aaron Dugan, General Manager of PokerStars at FanDuel, the main goal is delivering bigger and better playing experiences.
“By combining PokerStars’ industry-leading poker experience with FanDuel’s scale and reach, we’re able to deliver bigger games, larger prize pools and a more dynamic experience. The launch of PokerStars Exclusively on FanDuel brings together two of the most iconic names in gaming and represents a major step forward for online poker in North America.”
What Canadians Can Expect From the New Integrated Platform
PokerStars and FanDuel both have an established presence in Canada. While they’ve been accessible for a long time, FanDuel was a day-one operator when regulated Ontario online casinos and sportsbooks went live in April 2022. As for PokerStars, it went live in June 2022 once online poker became legal in Ontario.
And that’s why Canadian players familiar with either brand will find the new integrated platform a natural step forward rather than a steep learning curve. The combined product brings poker, sports betting, and casino gaming under one login and one wallet. It’s a consolidation that removes the friction of managing separate accounts across multiple platforms.
Based on the U.S. rollout across Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, here is what the integrated experience will bring to Canadians:

Worth noting is that the launch date for Ontario’s FanDuel-integrated version is yet to be confirmed. However, PokerStars ceased its Ontario-facing brand offering its online casino, sports betting, and online poker variants as of May 7. Accounts will remain open until June 4, after which all remaining funds will be returned via cheque.
According to the PokerStars announcement on X, it stated the transition “requires a short period where the PokerStars tables will close down ahead of relaunch and to ensure we’re fulfilling regulatory requirements.”
Cross-Border Poker Still Off the Table For Now
Ontario players stepping into the FanDuel-integrated platform will notice one limitation that the U.S. rollout does not carry. Poker players in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania compete against each other through a shared liquidity pool under the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement. Ontario sits outside that arrangement, with peer-to-peer play restricted to provincial borders under Canada’s regulated market framework.
The consequence is straightforward. A smaller, ring-fenced player pool places a ceiling on table availability, prize-pool sizes, and the overall competitive depth that the platform can deliver in Ontario compared to its North American counterparts. Daily fantasy sports face the same restriction, leaving FanDuel without an Ontario footprint in a vertical it has historically dominated elsewhere.
Back in November 2025, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that cross-border peer-to-peer online gaming could be lawful under the Criminal Code. Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, and Loto-Quebec responded by escalating the matter to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Flutter has entered the Supreme Court proceedings as an intervening party, backing cross-border play alongside GGPoker, NSUS, the Canadian Gaming Association, and the Ontario government. The outcome of that ruling carries significant weight for the integrated platform’s long-term potential in Canada.
A favourable Supreme Court decision would remove the ceiling entirely. Until then, the FanDuel and PokerStars integration in Ontario delivers a strong product with one unresolved question hanging over it.
Coming to an Alberta Screen Near You
FanDuel has already secured an iGaming license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC). As it prepares to launch in Alberta as a day one operator on July 13, 2026, it’s clear that PokerStars might be part of the brand’s long-term plans in the Wild Rose Country.
Entering a brand-new regulated market with a combined sports betting, casino, and online poker product under one platform gives FanDuel a competitive edge that few operators can match on opening day. Alberta players will not need to choose between platforms or manage separate accounts. Everything sits under one login from the moment the market goes live.
Whether PokerStars formally features in FanDuel’s Alberta launch remains unconfirmed. But the groundwork being laid in Ontario suggests the parent company, Flutter Entertainment, has no intention of leaving its most recognised poker brand on the sidelines as it expands westward. The Ontario integration serves as the operational blueprint, while any friction ironed out before July 13 works directly in Alberta’s favour.
The Alberta online casino, sports betting and online poker market arrives with significant commercial potential. A province with a strong appetite for sports betting and a digitally engaged population gives FanDuel a ready-made audience. Add PokerStars to that equation, and the integrated platform becomes one of the most compelling day-one offerings in Canadian iGaming history.
