Since the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) opened the iGaming registration doors to private operators seeking to take bets within Alberta’s new open-market model in January 2026, there appears to be robust interest from hundreds of iGaming operators.
In fact, the AGLC recently disclosed it has received inquiries about the upcoming market from more than 55 websites. However, only a handful have met the registration requirements and have paid all the required fees so far.

With the impending launch of Alberta online casinos and sports betting, the province is embarking on a major overhaul of its iGaming market.

While consultations, discussions, lobbying, and debates around iGaming began in 2024, the Alberta iGaming Act was finally passed in 2025, legalizing private-sector competition in Alberta iGaming. That means household names such as BetMGM, Jackpot City, and FanDuel, which previously operated within the province’s grey market, now have a chance to offer online sportsbetting and casino gaming under local regulation.

Here are some highlights from the top Alberta online casinos and sportsbooks headed to Wild Rose Country:
Caesars Entertainment
The latest well-known iGaming brand to make its way into Alberta iGaming, Caesars Entertainment, has always been a safe bet when it comes to brands pursuing Alberta’s new online gaming opportunity. On March 23, this bet paid off when the Las Vegas Gaming giant announced the launch of its preregistration period, ahead of market launch, across all of its online gaming brands.
A three-pronged approach the brand uses in Ontario and several other US states, including New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, Albertan residents can now sign up on Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, as well as Horseshoe online casino.
While Horseshoe and Caesars Palace are known for offering their deep selection of slots, table games, live dealers, and other specialty options, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino is more synonymous with its wide range of sports betting markets, even though it also offers an iCasino product.
Commenting on its expected trifecta launch in Canada’s Energy Province, Caesars Entertainment president Eric Hession said:
“Opening pre‑registration is an important first step that allows players to prepare for launch while we finalize our plans to bring our full trifecta of platforms online in Alberta. We welcome the province’s continued progress toward a regulated online market and appreciate the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s work to support operators through this process.”
Bede Gaming
With the release of the province’s licensing and operator onboarding program, iGaming suppliers are also expected to apply to enter Alberta’s new open-market model. They can apply for two licenses, depending on what they supply. One is for those who provide critical gaming systems. The other is for other supporting services.
Bede Gaming (part of the German Merkur Group) is among the earliest suppliers to acquire a one-year conditional license in the Wild Rose Country. The approval is for iGaming Goods or Services Supplier, which allows it to roll out its services and platform to licensed operators within the province. So, expect to see Bede Gaming powering the back-end platforms of several licensed operators when the Alberta market goes live.
“Bede is delighted to receive conditional regulatory approval to work in Alberta, putting us in a great position to support operators with their upcoming expansions in the province,” said Bede Gaming CEO, Colin Cole-Johnson.
“We have a longstanding investment in the Canadian iGaming industry, and I’m eager for the exciting opportunities ahead in this new market. As one of the first applicants to be formally recognized by the regulator, Bede offers a truly localized service to its partners, and the fact that they’re SOC 2 certified will allow them to hit the ground running as soon as they’re ready to launch.”
theScore Bet
theScore Bet officially unveiled its pre-registration in Alberta on Feb. 27. With hopes to register new gains after a tough 2025, when its ESPN Bet deal fell through, parent company Penn Entertainment announced that Albertans can now download the iOS/Android app and register their accounts.
“theScore is Canada’s premier digital sports media brand, and we can’t wait to bring our best-in-class sportsbook and casino app theScore Bet to Alberta,” said Billy Turchin, Chief Product Officer, PENN Interactive.
“We commend the Alberta government on all their efforts towards bringing regulated online gaming operators to the Province and look forward to introducing Albertans to our integrated media and betting offering when the market opens.”
BetRivers
Among the first two operators to open a pre-registration page in Alberta, Rush Street Interactive-operated brand BetRivers is set to bring both its iCasino and sports betting product to the province when the market goes live. The move marks a natural extension of the operator’s Canadian footprint, having launched in the Ontario online casino market in 2022. And since BetRivers has steadily built its presence in the province, Alberta was always the logical next step.
Currently, Albertans can sign up and claim exclusive offers on the BetRivers platform. That’s in addition to unique features such as the iRush Rewards program, RushPay system for instant payments, and ‘Rush Packs’ for exclusive promos.
“Canada continues to be a priority growth market for BetRivers, and Alberta represents an exciting next step,” Rush Street Interactive CEO, Richard Schwartz, said in a recent news release.
“With an office and large employee base in Toronto and a growing presence across the country, we’ve been building and investing in Canada for years. We’ve seen strong momentum in Ontario since launching in 2022, and through our continued partnership with CBC and our Olympic activations, we’re showing that we’re all-in on Canada for the long term.”
PointsBet
Claiming the first-mover title in Alberta’s pre-registration race, PointsBet completed its application and launched its sign-up page on Feb. 3. The move was a deliberate one, as the brand has had an Ontario presence since its iGaming market launched in 2022.
Through its sports betting, horse racing, and online casino games products, PointsBet had already road-tested the Canadian regulatory model and knew exactly what to do when Alberta came knocking.
For eligible Albertan players, PointsBet is worth paying attention to for one key reason: it describes itself as a genuinely Canadian-built product. The platform is developed with Canadian users in mind, staffed by a local team, and built on proprietary technology. Plus, those who pre-register on pointsbet.ca will receive a launch notification and an exclusive welcome offer once the full platform rolls out when the market goes live.
Commenting on the launch, PointsBet Canada CEO Scott Vanderwel said:
“Alberta’s move toward an open, competitive iGaming framework is a positive step for Canadian players, offering more choice and consumer protections in a safe and regulated environment.
“We’re excited to introduce our innovative, Canadian-focused sports betting and online casino products to Alberta residents, supported by industry-leading speed, responsible gaming tools, and local expertise.”
The Race to Enter Alberta iGaming Is Just Getting Started
PointsBet and BetRivers may have grabbed the early headlines, but the broader field is moving fast. BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, and homegrown contender ToonieBet are all working through the registration pipeline, especially since the AGLC is fast-tracking registrations from applicants currently operating legally in other jurisdictions, including Ontario.
The clock, however, is ticking. The AGLC has set July 13, 2026, as the hard deadline for operators to complete their applications, pay the necessary fees, and cease any unregulated activity within the province.
