Getting to Know Rita Ferreira

Before I became a writer, I worked in recruitment in Malta, at the heart of the European iGaming sector. That experience gave me a privileged inside look at how online casinos operate behind the scenes and contributed to my decision to switch to writing and share my opinion on the industry’s various verticals.

I now specialize in online gambling and sweepstakes gaming content, and write reviews, guides, and regulation-focused pieces for the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and Portugal. You might have seen some of my works on websites such as Casino.org, Oddspedia, Covers, Sportsbook Review, or The Game Day.

My university degree in Languages and International Relations focused on communication and international law, which helps me spell out regulatory jargon into reader-friendly explanations. It also allows me to decipher the fine print on bonus terms to help players choose the right bonuses for them.

Q&A With Rita

Pure luck, which seems fitting, considering the topic. I applied for an international work internship where I wouldn’t know the country I’d be moving to or the company I’d be working with until two weeks before departure. I landed at an iGaming recruitment agency in Malta and suddenly found myself surrounded by casino operators, compliance teams, game developers, marketers, you name it! I was fascinated by how the industry worked and realized I had a lot to say about it, so I eventually took the leap, left recruitment, and started writing about the platforms I had been helping staff. One article led to another, and it snowballed from there.

Without a doubt: daily login bonuses. They’re usually small, but they allow you to play without putting your own funds at risk and, if you understand the terms and know how to work within the rules, they can stretch surprisingly far. I also like the discipline to benefit from them: log in, claim, play, meet the T&Cs. The mindset of keeping the consistency and remaining patient fits me perfectly and, while I’m happy to take advantage of these bonuses when playing at sweepstakes sites, I’d like to see more online casinos and sportsbooks promote similar offers.

I never treat gambling as a shortcut to making money, because it isn’t. When I review a platform, I pay close attention to its responsible gaming tools: deposit limits, time-outs, self-exclusion options, and transparency around risk. I’m honest if those tools are weak or difficult to find. Personally, I encourage players to set limits before they even place their first bet. I also frame my content around entertainment and product experience, as my goal is to help players make informed decisions. If someone walks away from my content understanding both the fun and the risks, I’ve done my job properly.

The biggest mistakes players make, and my own personal pet peeves, are not reading the terms and conditions and claiming 100% of the bonuses they see on the site. Many negative reviews players leave on sites like Trustpilot are about being unable to make a bonus-related withdrawal, not the platform itself. Players often miss deadlines or misunderstand wagering requirements, and then they’re surprised when they can’t withdraw their winnings. It could all be avoided by spending five minutes reading the bonus terms and checking whether the bonus suits your style of play. Not every offer will be right for your playing habits, so you should only claim bonuses that actually work for you and that you’ll clear.

I’d write easier-to-follow terms, as this would help players avoid the bonus mistakes I mentioned above. Too often, bonus conditions use unnecessarily complicated language. Players shouldn’t need a law degree to understand what they’re signing up for, which probably stops many from even attempting to read the T&Cs. Casinos should want users to clearly understand their rights, responsibilities, deadlines, and wagering rules. I’d also rethink extreme wagering requirements paired with short completion windows, which I honestly believe were designed to frustrate more than reward. Transparency builds trust, and trust builds long-term players. If platforms explained their offers in plain terms, players could make better decisions, and there would be far fewer disputes.
