The Powerball lottery drawing is a massive multi-state game that features jackpots often reaching into the tens of millions of dollars. Many players across the US purchase tickets in the hopes of hitting a massive prize. Some states, such as Michigan, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, allow players to buy tickets online. In most markets, though, you have to visit a retail location to purchase a ticket.

If you don’t have any lucky numbers handy, you can select numbers using a random number generator like the one on this page. Because lottery games are chance-based, choosing random numbers is a great way to mix things up.

What Is A Lottery Number Generator?

Draw games like the Powerball require players to pick numbers, which are then compared with the numbers randomly drawn to select a winner. If all your numbers match, you win the jackpot (or split it with anyone else who picked the same numbers).

Many players choose to pick numbers based on a significant date, such as a birthday or anniversary. That’s a great way to keep yourself invested in the results and attach meaning to the numbers you’ve selected, but it’s not always the best strategy.

Because Powerball drawings are completely random, using a random number generator is a viable way to give yourself a chance at winning. Of course, the odds of winning are always the same for every drawing, but selecting randomly removes the pressure of having to select your own numbers.

Bottom line: a lottery number generator is a system that randomly gives you a combination of numbers that you can then use to select a Powerball ticket.

Generate Numbers For The Powerball Lottery

To use our Powerball number generator in its simplest form, just click “generate” and the system will create a full Powerball ticket featuring randomly selected numbers. The generator will create 6 lines, or 6 different sets of numbers, at one time. You can also generate as few as one line or as many as 9 lines.

Always Draw Numbers

Have a few numbers that you’d like to use? You can select certain numbers to always appear on the randomly generated ticket. They’ll always be selected while the remaining numbers are completely random. Just select the numbers from the “Always draw” section of the generator.

Past Powerball Winning Numbers

If you like to use past drawings to shape your picks, we have a tool for that as well. You can see how frequently other numbers were drawn and choose to use those on your ticket, too.

You can see how many draws a certain number was used in the last month, year, or all-time. Click on the “use” button to include this number in your random number generator.

With our Powerball number generator, you can tailor your selection so you always get a random ticket while still including your favorite numbers.

What Is The Powerball Lottery?

The Powerball drawing is a massive lottery game played across 45 states plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. It’s incredibly popular thanks to its jaw-dropping prize amounts. As of this writing, the current prize sits at $37 million. But the prize increases until someone wins, so the ceiling on possible jackpot amounts can skyrocket into the hundreds of millions. It’s just as popular as the Mega Millions lottery.

How Do You Play?

To play Powerball, you select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, then one number between 1 and 26 for the final red ball. Your goal is to match your picks with the numbers randomly selected on draw days (Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern). Each ticket costs $2.

If you wish, you can choose to play the same set of numbers for multiple drawings. You can also buy Power Play for an extra $1, which can multiply non-jackpot winnings.

There are multiple ways to win, but the only way to nab the full jackpot is to match every number exactly with the random drawing and get the red powerball correct. The order of the white balls, however, doesn’t matter. White balls are presented on Powerball tickets in numerical order.

Your odds of correctly selecting all six numbers are 1 in 292,201,338.

Big Wins

According to CNBC, one of the biggest Powerball wins ever hit in 2016, totaled $1.586 billion, and was split between three winners (about $533 million apiece).

The Powerball website features stories of past winners, ranging from $50,000 to multi-million dollar jackpots.

How To Buy Powerball Tickets Online

Not every state allows online lottery purchases. Currently, you can buy Powerball tickets online in the following states:

Note: if you find online purchase options in states other than these, they are likely operating illegally and should be avoided. We will update this page as more states legalize online lottery purchases.

Each state offers similar tools for selecting your numbers and purchasing a Powerball ticket online. You will need to create an account and provide some personal information to log in and complete your Powerball purchase. Outside of these small differences, the process in each of the six states we list above stays virtually the same.

Find An App Or Website

Every state lottery has a website. You can also download a mobile app if your state lottery has one available, and most do. You can find it on your device’s app marketplace, whether it’s Google Play or the iOS App Store.

Visit the website and/or download the app, then create your account to get started.

Select Your Numbers

To pick numbers, you can use our Powerball number generator. You can either randomly generate every single number, or plugin a few that mean something to you such as a birthday or significant date. Our generator will give you a complete Powerball ticket featuring randomly selected numbers.

Once you have your numbers, visit your state lottery’s website to begin the purchasing process. Let’s use Illinois as an example because their tool is simple and streamlined.

On the Powerball purchase page, select the numbers you chose or randomly generated for line 1. Remember, you’ll need to choose five white balls and one red Powerball.

Repeat that process five times, giving you five lines, each with different numbers selected. Our generator will automatically give you more than five lines worth of numbers. A single ticket includes five lines and costs $2.

Complete Your Purchase

Satisfied with your ticket? Click “add to cart” or “buy now,” usually easily visible on screen (or on the top right of the browser window) to check out. If you’re a first-time online buyer, plug in your payment info first. Once you’ve gone through those steps, you can complete your purchase.

Some online lotteries allow you to purchase subscriptions. These let you play the same numbers for multiple future drawings. If you’re a frequent player, look into this option. It can save you a lot of time and keep your numbers active for drawings over many weeks.

Is It Safe To Buy Powerball Tickets Online?

Purchasing Powerball tickets online is safe as long as you’re doing so in a state that has authorized online lottery sales. Georgia, Illinois, New Hampshire, Kentucky, Michigan, and Pennsylvania have all legalized online lottery sales and feature Powerball purchases on their websites.

If you search for online Powerball options and find yourself anywhere other than an official state lottery site, steer clear. Some sites offer to purchase tickets for you even if you don’t live in the state, which is both risky and illegal.

Using a random number generator is completely legal from anywhere. It simply gives you a random ticket of numbers and has no bearing on the actual outcome of the drawing.
