To enter Mega Millions, players can choose randomly generated numbers or select six: five numbers from 1 to 70 and one from 1 to 25 for the gold Mega ball. While many lottery enthusiasts prefer to select numbers based on personal or family birthdays or significant dates, others might prefer a more random approach. For those players, we offer the lottery number generator above.

What Is a Mega Millions Lottery Number Generator?

A random lottery number generator is a great alternative to picking specific dates, especially if you don’t want the pressure of picking multiple numbers. Our Mega Millions number generator will give you a full-fledged ticket complete with every number you need to enter the drawing. All you have to do is use those numbers to actually purchase a ticket from your state lottery.

Benefits Of Random Numbers

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, you need to match all five white balls and the Mega gold ball exactly. So to say that winning is unlikely is an understatement. Your odds of winning that jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. However, there are smaller prizes available for players who only match 5 white balls, for example, or four white balls and the Mega gold ball.

Because your odds to win are low, random number generation is a great option. Each time you generate numbers, you get a completely different combination without being swayed by your own preferences. Essentially, you’re just as likely to win with random numbers as you are by picking numbers based on your birthday or anniversary.

Pick Random Numbers For Mega Millions

To keep things simple, you can click “generate” to create a fully randomized Mega Millions ticket. You can generate a single line of numbers or up to 9 lines at once. The generator provides five random numbers plus the Mega gold number.

Always Draw Numbers

But the added benefit of using our random number generator is that you can select a number (or multiple numbers) that you always want to appear in your selections. These are your always-draw numbers. This is a great resource if you have one favorite number but want to generate a series of random Mega Millions lottery numbers that include your favorite.

Previous Winning Mega Millions Numbers

Or, if you like to use a bit of history to inform your picks, you can choose numbers from past drawings to appear as well. Search for previous numbers by month, year, or all-time. We even have a generator to show you the hottest Mega gold number of all time.

You can combine these features as much as you wish, helping you craft the perfect mix of sentimental numbers, past drawings, and random picks.

It’s entirely free and very easy to use, so play around with different combinations until you get a ticket that looks lucky to you.

About Mega Millions

Mega Millions is available in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the US Virgin Islands. It’s massively popular thanks to a routinely large jackpot, often reaching multiple millions of dollars. The most similar lottery game to Mega Millions is the Powerball, which offers a very similar experience.

In most states, you must visit a retail location to play Mega Millions. But for some lucky players, ticket purchases are available online. Check out our full online lottery guide to see if your state allows you to buy Mega Millions tickets over the Internet.

Mega Millions History

Mega Millions launched on August 31, 1996, under the name “The Big Game.” Six states—Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Virginia—participated in the first drawing, which occurred on September 6, just a week after the launch.

In the following years, other states started to throw their hats in the Mega Millions ring. New Jersey joined in 1999, followed by New York, Ohio, and Washington in 2002. 2003 brought Texas into the mix, and California joined in 2005.

In 2010, 23 new states started participating. Now, after a few more regions joined in the past 10 years, Mega Millions is played in 47 jurisdictions.

Play Mega Millions Online

To purchase a Mega Millions ticket online, you first need to confirm that you’re in a state that allows online purchases. There are currently multiple states that allow online purchases directly, with many others offering the ability to purchase Mega Millions tickets via lottery couriers such as Jackpot Lottery, Jackpocket, and theLotter.

Beware Of Illegal Sites

Even if you’re outside of the states listed above, you might find websites that claim you can purchase lottery tickets online. Steer completely clear of these services. They operate illegally and put you and your information at risk.

If you’re purchasing a lottery ticket online, the only safe way to do so is at an official lottery site in one of the states that allow such sales.

Choose A Device

If you’re in a legal online lottery market, you can usually purchase tickets online via desktop or a mobile device. There’s no major difference between the two except personal preference.

If you’re playing on a mobile device, you can find your state lottery’s app in the iOS Apple Store for Apple devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices. Although some states will have an app to allow you to check your numbers against winning numbers, only a few states allow ticket purchases through the app.

For desktop users, just head to your state lottery’s website.

Create An Account

This step is similar to registering for an online shopping account. Just enter the information requested (email, address, phone, name, etc.), create a username, and log in once your account is created.

If you want, you can pick your numbers (included in the next step) first, then create your account if you don’t already have one. The lottery website you choose will walk you through this.

Pick Your Numbers And Check Out

Once you’re all set up with an account, you can select your numbers using the lottery’s online or in-app tool. If you want to use random numbers from our tool, have it open in a separate tab or a mobile browser window so you can easily see your random picks. You can copy the numbers from our Mega Millions number generator to make it easy.

Double-check that you’re happy with your numbers, then check out. This is usually done via a “buy now” or similar button.

Plug in your payment info, check out, and you’re ready to watch the drawing.

Is Playing Mega Millions Online Safe?

Yes, playing Mega Millions online is safe and secure, as long as you’re playing on a sanctioned state lottery website.

If you find a website that offers to purchase tickets for you in a legal jurisdiction, stay away. Only use sites that allow you to select your numbers and complete your purchase all at once.

You can always check your lottery’s “About Us” page or search the site for licensing and regulatory information. This can help confirm that you’re on a secure site that will allow you to safely buy Mega Millions tickets.
