PointsBet horse racing is coming to the US. The company announced in May 2021 that it intended to purchase Premier Turf Club (or BetPTC) and later made good on the announcement. Now, BetPTC.com is a wholly-owned PointsBet company. It is expected to become part of the PointsBet app offering in the near future, likely becoming a tab alongside PointsBet Sportsbook and Online Casino, where applicable.

PointsBet got its start as an Australian horse race betting company and has since expanded into legal sports betting and online casino gaming in various markets. BetPTC is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio. On this page, we’ll cover everything you need to know about BetPTC.

The minimum age in most states for online horse racing is 18 years or older. If you’re 18+ and within a legal state, you can sign up for an account.

First, head to the BetPTC website (this may eventually be brought into the PointsBet fold).

Next, click “Sign Up.” This will bring you to a sign-up page where you must plug in various personal details. Be prepared to enter the following info:

  • Username and password (you’ll create these)
  • First and last name
  • Home address
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • SSN
  • Photo ID

Fill in all the fields, then select “Create Account.” From there, you should be all set.

PointsBet Horse Racing Bonus and Promotional Grade: 4.0

BetPTC calls itself “Racing’s best-kept secret,” and that still seems to hold true even after the PointsBet acquisition. The site has a great welcome promo for people who like to bet on horse races.

When you sign up and bet $750 or more, you’ll get an extra $200 to bet within your account. That’s a great offer for new users, especially if you’re planning to wager a good chunk of change on horse races at BetPTC.

As for other promotions, BetPTC has plenty of them. The site hosts regular tournaments with big cash prizes plus a rewards program that gives you cash back with every wager you make.

Overall, it’s a solid offering. However, it stands to improve as BetPTC becomes more a part of the PointsBet ecosystem. PointsBet is known for its generous promos for players of all sorts — new, pliers, veteran bettors, casual players, and more — so look out for ongoing improvements in this area for BetPTC.

BetPTC Market Depth and Variety: 4.5

Overall, BetPTC has solid market depth. On the day we wrote this review, there were more than two dozen races available for betting worldwide. You can wager on all sorts of events from domestic to global, making BetPTC’s coverage pretty solid.

Some other sites such as TVG have a better visual layout, making it way easier to see the available races and tracks. Those sites can also include more races. However, once again, BetPTC’s backing by PointsBet is a big point in its favor, so you can expect ongoing expansion in this area.

BetPTC Deposit and Cashout Grade: 4.0

BetPTC has a wide variety of deposit and withdrawal methods available. We’ll cover deposits first.

Deposits

You can deposit at BetPTC using the following methods:

  • BetPTC Cash/ACH
  • Credit/Debit card
  • By mail via cashier’s check
  • Bank wire
  • PayNearMe

Not all deposit methods are created equal. Some have distinct advantages over others. Of the options above, we recommend ACH as our top option, or PayNearMe if you need an alternative. Both options are usually instant.

Credit and debit cards are risky. They come with a $10 minimum, but we recommend you steer clear for other reasons. Banks and creditors can often decline gambling-related charges, resulting in interest fees or a hold on your card.

The mail-in option is a solid one, though it can take a while to hit your account.

Bank wire comes with a $200 minimum. ACH is overall easier and works in a similar fashion.

Withdrawals

By far the best and easiest withdrawal method at BetPTC is BetPTC Cash/ACH. If you deposit with this method, it makes withdrawing much easier. Withdrawals typically take 2-3 days; if you’re interested in exploring other withdrawal methods, we recommend contacting customer service.

PointsBet May Add Other Methods

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, PointsBet will massively improve BetPTC’s deposit and withdrawal options. It’s likely PointsBet will integrate betPTC into its sportsbook and casino apps, allowing options like PayPal to be added into the mix.

BetPTC/PointsBet Horse Racing Mobile App: N/A

Normally, we’d assign a grade to the horse race betting app at this point in our review. However, BetPTC only has a browser site right now. To be frank, it looks straight out of the early 2000s and is in grave need of an upgrade.

But, you guessed it — that’s a major point in BetPTC’s favor with regard to the PointsBet deal. We expect PointsBet to update BetPTC for the modern era and bring the app into its fold. More on that to come when we have more detail.

BetPTC Overall Grade: 4.0

As it stands, BetPTC is an okay horse race betting platform. The lack of a mobile app is a slight knock to BetPTC, but PointsBet’s purchase of the company makes that seem like a temporary issue, at least until PB brings BetPTC into its larger sportsbook and casino app where legal.

BetPTC has a great welcome bonus and some solid depth, though the site leaves a lot to be desired in terms of design and functionality.

Expect PointsBet to spruce up practically every element of BetPTC in the near future. As these changes roll out, we will update this page to reflect improvements to the horse race betting platform.

How to Place a Bet on BetPTC

Once you’ve signed up for BetPTC, you can place wagers in one of two ways (or both if you prefer to switch between the two).

First, you can place wagers online at BetPTC.com. Just head to the website and pursue the races of the day. You can build out your wagers from there and place them online.

Or, if you wish, you can place them via phone. This is a unique option, especially if you’re only used to sports betting, which typically takes place online. The number is 1-877-880-0588 and the line is available from 10 a.m. to 2 am. Eastern Time.

Most sites (including BetPTC) list plenty of stats that help you place smart bets.

Common Bets at BetPTC

There are many horse race bets you can place online and at retail tracks. It can get complicated, but there are a few bet types that are particularly friendly to beginners.

Single Horse Wagers

These bets are usually placed on one horse to finish in a certain place. The most common bets on single horses are win, place, or show.

  • Win: your horse must win
  • Place: your horse must win or come in second place
  • Show: your horse must win, come in second, or come in third

Betting on a horse to win has the best odds (though they change over time because this is pari-mutuel betting and not fixed odds). Place and show will pay less, respectively, though they’re more likely to happen.

Multi-Horse Bets

Multiple horse bets are popular because they tend to have higher possible payouts. But be warned, they’re harder to win as a result. Here are some of the most popular:

  • Quinella: pick two horses; they must come in 1st and 2nd in any order for your bet to win.
  • Exacta: pick two horses in order; they must finish in 1st and 2nd in that order to win your bet.
  • Trifecta: bet on three horses to place first, second, and third in that order.
  • Superfecta: same as a trifecta, but with four horses to place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

You can also “box” these bets, which raises your wager amount but removes the finishing order from the equation.

There are many types of horse race betting wagers you can place, though we won’t cover them all in depth here.

Is BetPTC Legit?

Yes, BetPTC is a legitimate operation. Here are a few reasons why.

Set Betting Limits

When you sign up for BetPTC, you can set a monthly wagering limit. This is intended to help you bet responsibly and stay within your means. Many offshore or illicit sites don’t offer such options.

Acquired By Pointsbet

PointsBet acquiring BetPTC is a big sign that the site is above board. PointsBet only operates in markets where it is licensed to do so. PointsBet does its due diligence before launching in any market, so it’s a sure sign it will ensure BetPTC does the same.

Clearly Listed Legal Markets

BetPTC’s FAQ clearly denotes the states where you can’t place bets using the platform. Any site that purports to offer its services everywhere is likely illegal or operating in a legal gray area, at the very least.

Responsible Gaming Resources

BetPTC lists responsible gaming resources on its site, so problem gamblers can seek help if needed. Not only is this a legal requirement for most gambling operators, but it’s also the kind thing to do when you’re running a gambling business and a sign of legitimacy.

Why Choose BetPTC Over Illegal Betting Sites?

Well, for many of the reasons we stated above, plus a few others. Illegal sites come with a lot of risks. Playing at a legal, regulated site mitigates that risk or outright eliminates it.

Your Data is Safe

BetPTC and other legal sites use high-level encryption tools to keep your data safe. Offshore sites don’t always offer such protections, making them inherently risky to use.

PointsBet Will Spruce up the BetPTC App

Offshore sites often have shoddy apps that are hard to navigate. Unfortunately, that’s kind of true about BetPTC right now. But with PointsBet behind the helm, we expect BetPTC to get a much-needed facelift and functionality boost.

Better Customer Service

Customer service at illegal sites is hit or miss, whereas legal sites have various channels you can use to get in touch if you have an issue. BetPTC has a phone line and email address. Those options will likely expand under PointsBet’s ownership over time.

Your Money is Safe

Regulated operators like BetPTC are required to pay out your winnings. If they don’t, you have legal recourse and the operator could be shut down. Offshore operators are only subject to the laws of the country in which they’re based, which can be lax in this regard.
