How Do Gift Card Redemptions Work at Social and Sweepstakes Casinos?
When you play online at sweepstakes sites and social casinos, the games are similar to regular sites except for the fact that you aren’t playing with actual money. Instead of players depositing cash into accounts, using cash to play the games, and then withdrawing cash from their accounts when they win, social and sweeps sites use virtual currencies. Players can play the games with these virtual coins for free or purchase coins with which to play. They can later redeem coins for cash prizes or, in many cases, gift cards.
How to Collect Sweepstakes Coins
Social and sweepstakes casinos typically use two different currencies, a non-premium one and a premium one. The non-premium one is often called Gold Coins (GC) and can be purchased, but not redeemed. The premium one is often called Sweepstakes Coins or Sweeps Coins (SC) and cannot be purchased, but can be redeemed for prizes.
You collect Sweepstakes Coins by receiving them as bonuses or by winning more SC when you play games with them. The bonuses come in various ways, including when you purchase Gold Coins, as daily login bonuses, via social media contests and giveaways, among other methods. You can even write the sites a letter requesting SC and they will give them to you.
Once you have accumulated the minimum amount of SC and have satisfied any playthrough requirements with them, you can submit a redemption request. Usually 1 SC is equal to $1, so if you’re redeeming 25 SC for a cash prize, you’ll get $25. Or, if you redeem 25 SC for a gift card, you’ll get a gift card worth $25.
Prizeout is the most commonly used third-party vendor by social and sweeps sites to handle delivering gift cards to players. Prizeout is an ad-tech company based in New York City that provides ways for many different kinds of merchants to deliver gift cards, not just social and sweeps sites.
My experience with Prizeout has been very positive, which means I’m typically glad to see a site is working with Prizeout when I want to redeem some SC for a gift card.
How to Redeem Sweepstakes Coins for Gift Cards
Usually the steps for redeeming for gift card go something like this:
- First you have to accumulate the minimum number of Sweeps Coins needed to redeem for a gift card (see the table above for examples).
- Satisfy any playthrough requirements with your SC before trying to redeem them. Many operators set a 1x playthrough requirement before a redemption of Sweeps Coins for a Prizeout gift card can be processed. A few have a 3x playthrough requirement to redeem SC or even higher.
- Before you can submit a redemption request, you will likely need to verify your account first, including by providing a photo ID and/or selfie.
- When you submit your request at a sweeps casino that uses Prizeout, you’ll get to select a retailer where you want to use your gift card (more on that below).
- Your request will be reviewed, and you can look for an email (or perhaps more than one) letting you know the process is underway. You might receive emails from both the sweeps site and from Prizeout.
- When your request is approved, you’ll receive an email from Prizeout with your virtual gift card and instructions for how to use it.
All of this might sound complicated, but in truth it is not. In my experience, it usually takes about one day from the time I request my redemption to the time I receive the email from Prizeout with my virtual gift card. Sometimes it has been faster than that, but I’ve never had to wait more than one day.
Where Can You Use Prizeout Gift Cards?
A better question might be where can’t you use Prizeout gift cards?
As I mentioned before, when going through the process of claiming your gift card, you’ll be invited to make a choice of where you want use it. Prizeout works with lots of different retailers, which means you should be able to find at least one where you’d like to use a gift card. In fact, you might have some difficulty choosing between several attractive options.
Below are the Prizeout options I had available to me when I last received a gift card after collecting 10 SC and redeeming them at Pulsz:
76 | Chili’s | GameStop | Marshalls | Sheetz |
Advance Auto Parts | Chipotle | Google Play | Michaels | Sonic |
Arby’s | Conoco | Home Depot | Miller’s Ale House | Sony Playstation |
Autozone | CVS Pharmacy | IHOP | Petsmart | Starbucks |
Bass Pro Shops | Darden Restaurants | JCPenney | Phillips 66 | Subway |
Bath & Body Works | Dick’s Sporting Goods | Jersey Mike’s | Pilot Flying J | Taco Bell |
Buffalo Wild Wings | Domino’s | KFC | Puma | Texas Roadhouse |
Burger King | DSW | Kohl’s | Regal Theatres | T.J. Maxx |
Burlington | Dunkin’ | Kroger | Roblox | Ulta Beauty |
Cheryl’s US | eBay | LEGO | Sam’s Club | Walgreens |
Chewy | Foot Locker | Lowe’s | Sephora | Zaxby’s |
Obviously there is no shortage of options here of places where you can get gift cards through Prizeout. I have tended to use eBay where I’ve used my gift cards to purchase books and used records. I didn’t see Amazon among the choices this time, but I’ve seen Amazon as an option at other Prizeout gift card sites including at some of the newest sweepstakes casinos.
Just to give you an idea what to expect, to the right I’m sharing a screenshot of the most recent digital gift card I received. After accumulating 10 SC at Pulsz, I went through the process described above and got the email from Prizeout with a link to my digital card.
As you can see, it shows the dollar value of the card, the vendor logo (eBay), and a redemption code under that. I’ve blurred out the redemption code here, although it wouldn’t work anymore, anyway, as I’ve already used it.
You might notice the amount up top is for more than $10 — more about that below. You can make note of that code, or you can also add the gift card to your Apple Wallet or Samsung Pay.
When you purchase something on eBay, you have a chance to enter a code like the one listed here, and the discount is then applied to your purchase. I used this one to buy a book that cost exactly $10.40 (with shipping), actually, so I only had to pay a dime to get it!
When using cards at other retailers, the process might work a little differently. But you’ll likely also receive some sort of code you can apply when making a purchase.
Other Things to Know About Using Prizeout Gift Cards
Bonuses
Typically when you redeem Sweeps Coins the exchange rate makes 1 SC worth $1 USD. That’s usually true whether you’re redeeming for cash prizes or gift cards. A few sites use different rates (e.g., some make 100 SC worth a dollar), but in most cases it is a 1-to-1 ratio between SC and USD.
Above you see how I actually got a $10.30 gift card for my 10 SC redemption. That’s because a bonus was added when I chose my gift card, in this case worth 3%. Prizeout redemptions are often accompanied by bonuses, where users can receive extra value on their gift cards. In fact, there were bonuses available for all of the different vendors, and 3% was actually on the low side. Some of the bonuses went as high as 10% or 15%.
You’ll be able to see those bonus amounts when you make your choice of where you want to use your gift card. So that might tip you in one direction or the other when making your selection.
Expiration Dates
Gift cards from Prizeout have no expiration dates. In Prizeout’s Terms of Use, you’ll find they explicitly state that “Gift Cards do not expire.” This ensures users can use them whenever they choose, without worrying about time constraints.
I’ve seen articles elsewhere (including on the Prizeout site in their FAQs) that point out federal law dictates gift cards can’t expire within a minimum of five years from the date they are purchased.
In any case, I wouldn’t recommending trying to hang onto a Prizeout gift card forever, but it’s worth knowing that you won’t be in any rush to use it once you receive it.
Cards are Digital, Not Physical
Please note that Prizeout only gives out digital gift cards. You won’t be receiving a physical card, but rather a virtual one delivered to your email. This could present a bit of a hiccup for those getting cards for restaurants or stores where you plan to visit the retailer in person and try to use your card.
In that situation, you can usually show your gift card to the cashier as displayed on your smartphone. If you’ve added the gift card to your Apple Wallet or saved it to Samsung Pay, you can show it from there, too. Another option is to print out the gift card claim page, and in fact some retailers may require a physical copy.
I personally have not tried to use a Prizeout gift card for in-person purchases, but only for online shopping. If you do want to use a Prizeout gift card while visiting a particular retailer, I’d recommend calling ahead and making sure you’ll be able to use it that way.

User Reviews
As I say above, I’ve had good experiences with Prizeout. On the whole, other users seem to like the service a lot, too.
Prizeout has a 4.5 (out of 5) average rating on Trustpilot, and 80% of the reviews are 5-star. Users frequently highlight how smoothly and quickly things have gone when they have received gift cards via the service.
They also mention how responsive Prizeout tends to be when it comes to customer support. It’s true that Prizeout representatives actively respond to reviews on the site and reach out to customers, especially those who have encountered issues. As with anything, there are some complaints mixed in among the praises regarding Prizeout. On the whole, though, it seems most users are able to issues resolved when they arise.
You might keep in mind that when you redeem coins for a gift card at social and sweeps sites like Pulsz, High 5 Casino, WOW Vegas, RealPrize, and others, you are going to be dealing with a different entity — Prizeout — once you begin the process. That means if an issue arises and you contact customer support at the sweepstakes casino, they’ll likely direct you to Prizeout.
Redeeming Sweeps Coins for Gift Cards vs. Cash Prizes
I personally prefer redeeming my Sweepstakes Coins for gift cards over cash prizes, but many players understandably prefer receiving actual money from their play. Here are some key distinctions between redeeming for gift cards and redeeming for cash prizes worth considering.
Gift Cards
- There is usually a lower minimum to redeem SC for gift cards than for cash prizes, sometimes as low as 10 SC.
- You often don’t have to provide bank information to receive a gift card. (Note there are a few exceptions.)
- You must use your gift card at a particular retailer, although you usually get to choose which one.
- Typically you’ll enjoy faster payouts when redeeming for gift cards than you get when requesting cash prizes.
Cash Prizes
- Usually there is a higher minimum to redeem SC for cash prizes, often 50 SC or 100 SC.
- You usually have to provide your bank information when redeeming for a cash prize.
- Once you receive your cash prize, you can use the money any way you like.
- Payout speeds aren’t typically as fast with cash prizes vs. gift cards.
Is Prizeout Safe to Use at Sweepstakes Casinos?
Yes, Prizeout is a secure method to use for gift card redemption at social and sweeps sites. As a trusted brand, Prizeout works with a large number of partners and platforms, including many of our top recommended social and sweepstakes sites.
It isn’t surprising to see Prizeout the most popular third-party provider being used our top sites for gift card redemptions. In fact, when a social and sweepstakes casino uses Prizeout, that usually helps confirm the site’s commitment to users’ security.
Final Thoughts: Are Prizeout Redemptions Worth It?
Like a lot of people who enjoy playing the games on social and sweepstakes casinos, I am much more interested in winning prizes than spending money. The good news is sweeps sites offer free play, letting you play games without any expense and even making it possible to win prizes without making any purchases at all.
For me, trying to win enough Sweeps Coins to redeem them for gift cards is a primary goal when playing. The minimum thresholds for redeeming are lower than is the case for cash prizes, and therefore they are more attainable. I also like the convenience of redeeming for gift cards, and it’s always nice to receive a new one in my email to use online.
Prizeout redemptions are certainly worth trying to get for sweeps players. They can serve as a realistic goal for those who aren’t interested in spending a lot on gold coin packages.
