An Arizona player has made history by winning the $112 million Mega Millions jackpot with a ticket purchased through the Jackpocket app. That nine-figure prize is the largest ever won through a lottery courier service.

According to Jackpocket, which is owned by DraftKings, app users have won 61 prizes worth $1 million or more. However, the latest one is labeled “ a groundbreaking moment for lottery apps”. Pete Sullivan, SVP, Lottery at DraftKings, shared his excitement:

This is a transformative moment in lottery history, marking the largest jackpot ever won from a ticket ordered using a lottery courier service. As more customers turn to apps like Jackpocket to order their lottery tickets, we are thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking moment.

DraftKings acquired Jackpocket in February 2024, shortly after Jackpocket launched its first online casino product in New Jersey. The purchase marked a continuation of DraftKings’ strategy of diversifying beyond its traditional sports-focussed audience, which began with the acquisition of Golden Nugget Online Casino in May 2022.

What’s Jackpocket?

Jackpocket is a lottery courier service that allows users to purchase lottery ticket orders on their app or website. Once they place their order, Jackpocket purchases the retail ticket on their behalf and sends them confirmation. If the player wins a prize under $600, Jackpocket pays them directly through the app. For larger prizes, it arranges the physical delivery of the ticket so the player can claim it in person.

Jackpocket is one of several lottery courier apps available in the US. It’s the market leader, and it’s available in 19 jurisdictions: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Texas, Washington DC and West Virginia

Lottery couriers provide convenience in states with no iLottery

According to Jackpocket, 40% of US lottery players have bought a ticket through a mobile app or a website, emphasizing the growing popularity of online lottery sales. However, only 15 states allow online lottery purchases, with West Virginia being the latest. Lottery couriers aim to fill that demand in some states without an official online lottery. In addition to Jackpocket, players can place online ticket orders with these lottery couriers:

  • Lotto.com: Available in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas
  • Jackpot.com: Available in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Texas
  • TheLotter.com: Available in Florida, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, and Texas

Although these companies operate under similar business models, there are some differences, such as ticket handling. Moreover, not all allow the purchase of instant scratch tickets, and where available, the ticket’s handling time varies.
