The lottery courier app Jackpot.com has launched in Massachusetts, allowing lottery players to purchase tickets online using desktop or mobile devices. Bay State players now have the option to buy tickets for four draw games using the Jackpot.com app or website:
- Powerball
- Mega Millions
- Mass Cash
- Lucky for Life
Jackpot.com says more lottery games will be available soon.
Massachusetts is the fourth state where the app is available. The courier debuted in the US about a year ago, launching in Texas. It later expanded its footprint to New York and Ohio.
Jackpot.com has existing ties to Massachusetts and the Boston Red Sox in particular. Its investors include the Kraft Group, Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy, Fenway Sports Group President Mike Gordon, and former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein.
What Does Jackpot.com Bring to Massachusetts?
Jackpot.com is a lottery courier service that has become an official partner of the Massachusetts Lottery. Couriers act as middlemen, allowing players to buy lottery tickets online in states where legislators haven’t yet authorized the lottery to sell online directly.
Lottery players place their ticket orders directly through the app. Jackpot.com fulfills those orders by purchasing the ticket on their behalf at a licensed lottery retailer. It provides a scanned image to the player as proof of purchase through the app or email.
If the player wins a prize of less than $600, Jackpot.com redeems the ticket itself and credits the player’s account instantly. For winnings over $600, a company representative will contact the player to arrange the safe delivery of the physical ticket. The player then must claim their prize in person, per lottery regulations.
In states where a true online lottery is unavailable, lottery couriers like Jackpot.com offer players convenience and peace of mind. According to Akshay Khanna, Jackpot.com CEO & co-founder, using the app helps players keep track of their tickets:
Every year, billions of dollars from the lottery go unclaimed due to lost tickets or otherwise. When you play the lottery with Jackpot.com on your phone, tablet, or computer, there’s no missing out on jackpots and your winnings are instantly transferred to you.
Jackpot.com also has players’ safety in mind. The app has established multiple features to ensure responsible gaming, including deposit limits, spend limits, temporary pauses, and self-exclusion. Jackpot.com is the only lottery courier service with iCap certification from the National Council on Problem Gambling.
Jackpot Faces Fierce Competition in the Lottery Courier Space
Jackpot.com is the second lottery courier to launch in Massachusetts. In July last year, rival Jackpocket went live via a partnership with Circle K. While the names are similar, they are two different companies. Jackpocket has tried unsuccessfully to sue Jackpot.com over the potential confusion.
Jackpocket is the largest lottery courier app and is live in 17 states and Washington, DC. The company says that orders through its app accounted for 12% of Powerball sales last year in the states where it is available. Also, since its launch, users have won over $300 million using the Jackpocket app. The company’s popularity has led to the launch of Jackpot Online Casino in New Jersey.
Another lottery courier app, Lotto.com, is live in eight states. Recently, a Colorado player won $3 million from a digital scratch-off they ordered via the app. Other recent wins through the Lotto.com app include a $2 million Powerball winner and a $1 million Mega Millions winner, both in Texas.
