PokerStars
PokerStars was the world’s leading poker brand from 2006 until 2021 when it was overtaken by GGPoker. Despite having been on the wrong side of the US Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act from 2006 to 2011, it has been allowed to obtain licenses in most US states that subsequently legalized online gambling. The notable exception is Nevada, which considers PokerStars a bad actor and will not allow it to operate.
Shortly after returning to the US market in 2015, PokerStars began branching out into casino gaming and sports betting. In 2019, it struck a deal with Fox Sports to create the Fox Bet sports betting brand. The following year, however, PokerStars was acquired by Flutter. As the owner of FanDuel, Flutter had little interest in supporting a secondary sportsbook brand, and Fox Bet went out of business in 2023.
PokerStars continues to offer online poker and casino gaming in NJ, MI, and PA. On Jan. 1, 2023, it became the first operator to share poker traffic between New Jersey and Michigan.
