My Experience with PlayStar Casino

Real online casino reviews should be compiled by players who actually have experience in signing up, depositing, and playing games on the site. I’ve spent the last week getting to grips with PlayStar Casino to share my unbiased opinion.

Overall Product Rating & Key Takeaways

Both my rating and the user rating for PlayStar Online Casino sit at 4.5 stars. With a huge game collection, highly rated apps for iOS and Android, and a slick rewards system, it was no surprise that other NJ players love PlayStar as much as I do.

I was particularly happy to see features suited to both newbies and casino experts alike. As soon as I signed up, I had access to over 1,200 slots, against-the-computer tables, and even a strong lobby of live casino games.

The PlayStar Casino welcome offer is another great reason to sign up. Players can get a 100% Deposit Match up to $500 + 500 Bonus Spins when they create their account today. The deposit match is a slightly smaller offer than other deals in NJ, but the bonus spins help. Each spin is valued at $0.10, so an additional $50 is up for grabs.

Pros & Cons of PlayStar Casino

Pros

  • Range of 1,200+ games
  • Great apps for iOS and Android
  • PlayStar Club rewards available to all players

Cons

  • Lacks exclusive game options
  • Smaller range of payment methods than competitors

Where I Found PlayStar Casino Available

PlayStar Online Casino is only available to players based in New Jersey, though it’s expected to land in Pennsylvania soon. A smaller version of the site will likely go live in PA, but we expect a similar user experience and welcome bonus.

In NJ, PlayStar Casino is partnered with Ocean Casino Resort and is licensed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Desktop Experience

I registered for PlayStar using the desktop site and spent the first couple of days getting to know the casino on my laptop.

Though PlayStar may have a more traditional feel than other NJ online casinos, its features and navigation systems were anything but outdated. I was met with crisp graphics, detailed navigation, and impressive search functions.

I was initially surprised by the large number of game navigation options available to me, but this made browsing the site a breeze. It was helpful to have pages dedicated to the latest offers, such as “Concierge Cashdrop,” but I also liked that classic options like “Jackpots” and “Table & Card” were still available. I often ended up in the “Top Picks” lobby to find player favorites like Crazy Time and Starburst.

At the top of the site, I could move between the promotions page, Star Rewards, and the PlayStar Club. PlayStar uses a large homepage banner to advertise its biggest promotions, so I was always up to date with the latest.

The casino was noticeably responsive. I didn’t experience any lagging or delays when browsing and playing. This was also the case for opening the cashier or switching between my most-played games.

Mobile App Experience

PlayStar has mobile apps for iOS and Android, so I was excited to play on my iPhone. The download process was fast, much like you’d expect from any casino app on the App Store.

The app is rated highly, scoring 4.4 out of 1,300+ ratings on the App Store. On the Google Play Store, PlayStar is rated 4.3 out of 950+ ratings.

My experience replicated that of other user ratings. The real money casino app mirrored the desktop site but in a more compact fashion. I could still use the same great menus, play the same 1,200+ games, and even claim the casino’s welcome offer if I wanted to.

I spent a lot of time playing live casino games on my phone, as I was impressed with the HD streaming quality and player chat features. Crazy Time and Speed Blackjack became a couple of my favorites.

Slot Games

PlayStar Casino has an impressive selection of over 1,100 slot games. I found titles from all the top developers I’d expect for a casino of this size, including NetEnt, IGT, Konami, and Light and Wonder.

I could browse by theme from the homepage, navigating to pages like “Fin-tastic Games” and “Luck of the Irish.” However, advanced settings were unavailable in the main slots lobby, making it feel a little overwhelming. To fine-tune my picks, I would have liked the option to sort titles by theme, RTP, or volatility.

The “Top Picks” and “New” pages were often my first port of call. Games like “Big Juan,” “Gems & Riches,” and “Walking Dead Collect Em” became new favorites. Each title made use of detailed graphics and sound effects.

Table & Live Dealer Games

PlayStar has a decent number of table games. The selection is larger than many NJ online casinos, but doesn’t meet the size of giants like DraftKings and BetMGM. Nonetheless, slot fans who occasionally dip into a blackjack game or two will find more than enough variety here.

I was also very pleased with the Live Casino, which featured another 50+ live dealer games. Again, this is on par with most online casinos in New Jersey. A good variety of blackjack, roulette, poker, and game show titles are on offer, including many titles from industry leaders, such as Evolution Gaming.

Every game was streamed in HD, and I could access chat features to speak directly with the dealer and fellow players.

Does PlayStar Casino Offer Games You Can’t Find Elsewhere?

Exclusives aren’t really highlighted at PlayStar, so I can only assume the casino doesn’t offer that many. From the looks of the PlayStar Club, I expect to unlock some of these games as I work through the rewards system.

Players looking for a wide range of exclusives may prefer to check out a larger site like BetMGM Casino or Caesars Palace Online Casino.

Specialty Games

Where PlayStar lacks in exclusives, it makes up in specialty games. I found a range of 50+ Slingo, bingo, and Keno titles. Some of my favorites include:

  • Lightning Box Keno
  • Slingo Pop
  • Tetris Slingo
  • The Green Machine Bingo

VIP & Loyalty Rewards: Is It Worth the Commitment?

PlayStar has not one, but two VIP programs for players: PlayStar Club and Star Rewards.

  • Star Rewards: This rewards scheme works like a loyalty card. Players receive a stamp for every $50 deposited and wagered. Users receive a $50 PlayStar voucher on their third and fifth stamps. On their 10th stamp, a $50 Prizeout gift card is awarded.
  • PlayStar Club: This is PlayStar’s main loyalty system. Players automatically become members after making their third deposit and can then work up the ranks by wagering on slots and tables.

How the Loyalty Program Works

PlayStar’s main loyalty system, PlayStar Club, works across five tiers. Players earn one PlayStar Club Point for every:

  • $5 wagered on slots
  • $10 wagered on table games

The higher the player’s level, the better their benefits will be. Rewards perks include access to a birthday bonus, exclusive promotions, and weekly cashback.

My Experience with the VIP Perks

Players must make three deposits and wagers before becoming PlayStar Club members. I didn’t quite make it onto the board while testing the casino, but I’m excited to see how I progress with a little more time on my side.

That said, I was impressed with the PlayStar Club points system. Earning one point for every $5 wagered on slots is on par with most big players in the casino world, including Caesars Rewards. Yes, this program still requires large deposit figures to work through the tiers, but it’s doing a great job of holding its own.

The unique Star Rewards system also looked perfect for my play style. I liked the loyalty card theme and look forward to hitting my $50 Prizeout voucher. This is a fun twist on the classic casino rewards system that I hope to see a little more regularly from now on.

How the PlayStar Casino Rewards Compare to Other Casinos

As I mentioned above, I was pleased with the earning system at the PlayStar Club. This puts the rewards club on the same wavelength as Caesars Rewards, where players earn one Reward Credit for every $5 wagered on slots and every $10 on video poker.

That said, larger casinos tend to offer larger player perks. For example, MGM Rewards users can collect points both online and in-resort. These points can then be used against resort dining, spa days, and even weekend breaks.

How I Handled Deposits & Withdrawals

PlayStar offered fewer payment options than I expected from such a huge site, but all my go-to banking methods were available. I was happy to see that PayPal could be used for both deposits and withdrawal requests.

I should note that while the PlayStar minimum deposit is $10, players must deposit at least $20 to trigger the online casino’s welcome offer.

To keep up with the competition, I would like to see PlayStar introduce a few more payment methods to its cashier. The addition of Skrill and Apple Pay would really make a difference.

Payment MethodDeposit TimelineWithdrawal Processing TimeMinimum Transaction
Visa/Mastercard credit and debit cardInstant1-3 business days (debit only)$10
Play+InstantWithin 24 hours$10
ACHInstant3-5 business days$10
PayPalInstant1-2 business days$10
Cash at the cage (Ocean Casino Atlantic City, NJ)InstantWithin 24 hours$10

Deposit Options

I always choose to deposit casino funds using PayPal when the option is available. However, all other PlayStar banking options also offer instant transactions. I could save my details to the cashier, making future payments even faster.

$10 deposits are available with the following:

  • VISA/Mastercard credit and debit
  • PlayStar Play+
  • ACH
  • PayPal
  • Cash at the cage

Withdrawal Process

After a couple of days of testing PlayStar Casino, I was ready to request my first withdrawal. As usual, I used PayPal.

PlayStar is conservative with its withdrawal timeline promises. Though the casino warned of a potential two-day wait, I received my funds within 24 hours. Longer wait times will potentially apply to withdrawals via ACH and debit cards.

A 24-hour processing period is in place across all requests. Withdrawals can be made from $10 using the following methods:

  • VISA/Mastercard debit
  • PayPal
  • ACH
  • Play+
  • Cash at the cage

Payment Security & Regulations

PlayStar Casino is licensed and regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. This means the site has to follow strict security protocols and regulations to ensure the safety of its players.

New PlayStar users must be within NJ borders and aged 21 or over. To claim the casino’s welcome offer, players must be at least 25 years of age. In my eyes, this is a fantastic step from PlayStar to protect new casino players from wagering more than they should.

Advanced encryption technology is in place to protect user information, which includes payment information and Know Your Customer details.

PlayStar also has a strong responsible gaming system. Users are encouraged to set limits and seek help whenever necessary.

My Experience with Customer Support

PlayStar is one of the few NJ online casinos to offer four support methods: email, telephone, FAQ, and live chat.

I tend to rely on live chat systems the most, as these offer the fastest way to get answers to my questions. I put PlayStar to the test one Sunday evening and was mostly happy with the outcome.

First, I was able to completely bypass the AI chatbot by clicking the “Get in Touch” button. Chatbots often feel like a waste of time, so I was glad to skip this one. Once I filled in my name, email, and question, I was put straight into the chat queue. I only waited around 30 seconds before “Dan G” joined the chat.

Dan was more than happy to share a list of PlayStar’s withdrawal methods, but he could not share withdrawal timeframes. Luckily, I already knew these, but I was surprised that the customer support representative could not share this.

I would also like to see an FAQ upgrade from PlayStar. The casino’s list format seemed outdated in a world of Zendesk support categories and search bars. However, the depth of information provided still ticked all my boxes.

Other PlayStar support options include:

How PlayStar Casino Stacks Up Against Competitors

PlayStar isn’t grouped with the big players in New Jersey, but I thought the online casino was still doing a good job of keeping up with the competition.

Here’s where I think PlayStar fits in the NJ online casino rankings and the benefits players might experience by choosing it over others.

My Key Takeaways

PlayStar is trying to join the gold standard of online casinos that pay real money in New Jersey. This was most evident where it really counted: the site’s games library.

The casino’s range of 1,200+ titles puts it in the middle ground between NJ giants like DraftKings (2,800+) and newer additions such as Spin Palace (450+). If the site continues to hit a growth spurt, it could overtake the libraries currently offered by casinos like BetMGM and Caesars Palace.

It was also good to see mobile apps for both Apple and Android players, and a well-optimized mobile site for those who don’t want to complete a download. A similar number of games were available on the app as on the desktop site, a clear demonstration that PlayStar really means business.

Like most NJ online casinos, I would like to see a few changes from PlayStar. I would like to see more exclusive game options and a couple more banking methods. If PlayStar could work on each of these points, it would be up there with the very best.

Who Should Play Here?

PlayStar is a really well-rounded casino that would suit most players. I found a range of newbie-friendly games offering play from just $0.10, as well as Pro options where wagers started from a minimum of $10.

Sure, PlayStar doesn’t offer as many tables as Golden Nugget or DraftKings. However, with 85+ to choose from, my guess is that players would struggle to get bored.

The only obvious limitation to PlayStar Casino is its banking options. Players who prefer to use payment methods like Skrill or Apple Pay should check out BetMGM Casino instead.

My Closing Thoughts

I believe PlayStar Online Casino is a strong choice for most players. The welcome bonus gives users a good start, and the huge game selection offers endless entertainment.

The user experience offered across both the desktop site and mobile app is also some of the best I’ve seen. The casino was so simple to navigate, and I loved that this was mirrored in the app for a seamless transition between platforms.

PlayStar’s loyalty scheme duo stayed with the competition, and plenty of other promos were open to existing players.

Customer support was good, but I would like to see better training for the casino’s live chat agents and a more modern FAQ page.

Ultimately, PlayStar is an exciting online casino with lots to offer players in NJ. I would recommend it to any casino fan looking for endless games, frequent rewards, and great mobile play.
