PrizePicks Review – Prediction Market Features, Safety, and How It Works
Prediction markets can seem intimidating at first – especially if you’re coming from a sports-betting or investing background – but there’s really nothing to worry about.
I’ve spent the past couple of weeks actively trading on PrizePicks to understand everything there is to know about the platform.
In this article, I’ll break down my findings and walk you through what makes the PrizePick tick.
Billed as America’s #1 Sports Picks App, PrizePicks is a CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) regulated platform available in all 50 states. The platform consists of three major components:
- Player Picks: Select 2-6 players, predict whether their actual stats will be More or Less than the projection, and earn rewards if your predictions are correct.
- Team & Culture Picks: Choose a team and earn money when you make the correct prediction in the NFL, NBA, UFC, boxing, etc.
- Free2Play: Make free sports predictions and play for Jackpots, Bonus Lineups, and more prizes. There’s no risk, but players can win real rewards.
New users offered a “Play $5, Get $50 Instantly In Lineups” welcome offer – allowing newbies to test the platform with minimum investment. Find out how to claim the welcome offer and everything else that you need to know about PrizePicks in the article below.

Is PrizePicks Legit, Safe, and Regulated?
Regulation & Legal Status
PrizePicks, specifically Team Picks and Culture Picks, are event contracts regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), ensuring transparency and adherence to federal regulations.
This offers a safe, more trustworthy product for users, with the company now recognized as a CFTC-registered FCM and NFA Member. This means that Prize Picks must adhere to strict trading regulations.
It is important to note that event contract trading is different from sports betting and gambling. A trading platform, although it still carries significant risk, allows players to interact with a market – it’s a peer-to-peer platform. Gambling, on the other hand, involves betting against a house.
How User Funds Are Protected
Verification at PrizePicks is handled using trusted, industry-standard methods to ensure all personal data remains secure.
In most states where PrizePicks operates, Residents aged 18 and above can participate in the majority of states. The following exceptions apply:
- In Alabama and Colorado, the minimum age is 19.
- In Massachusetts, Virginia, and Arizona, players need to be at least 21 years old to access the PrizePicks Real Money Game.
In addition to the sign-up verification required at PrizePicks, the platform offers a range of additional security measures to ensure the safety of all users.
PrizePicks encrypts and securely stores personal and payment details. Payments are handled by third-party partners like Aeropay, enhancing security between users’ banks and the platform. Anti-fraud checks are conducted before withdrawals, and accounts can be frozen if suspicious activity is detected.

Fees, Pricing, and Trading Costs
Trading Fees Explained
Trading fees apply to both Team and Culture picks and are charged whenever a user buys or sells a pick.
The fee ranges from $0.005 to $0.02 per contract and is added to your entry fee when you buy an order, then deducted from your payout when you sell. Service fees are waived if you keep your position until the closing date.
Limits & Risk Controls
Users can purchase as many full contracts as their limits allow, but partial contracts are not permitted.
The dollar amount chosen for an entry fee will determine how many contracts can be purchased for a single pick.

Platform & App Experience
To get started on PrizePicks, new players are required to download and sign up using the PrizePicks mobile app – this is necessary to create an account and start playing.
Desktop Experience
I found the desktop version of PrizePicks to be my preferred way to access the site.
The markets are well-organized, and everything was clean, fast, and easy to navigate – exactly what you’d expect from a leading platform. I much prefer using a larger screen when dealing with Prediction Markets and found building picks to be intuitive, albeit slightly limited in depth – something that more advanced users will pick up on.
Players can access the desktop version of PrizePicks by heading to app.prizepicks.com.
Mobile App Experience
The mobile app is hugely popular and closely mirrors the desktop experience. The iOS version is rated 4.7 stars from 453k+ ratings, whereas the Android app is rated 4.2 stars from 66k+ ratings.
There’s full feature parity between desktop and mobile, allowing players to build and submit entries just as easily on their phone. It’s extremely convenient, and the platform is clearly designed mobile-first – but for me, it’s impossible to beat the big screen experience.
Customer Support and Help Resources
Customer support at PrizePicks is top-notch, with a range of different resources available to all players:
- Live Support (24/7)
- Help Center (Rules & FAQ)
- Email (support@prizepicks.com)
I found the help center to be particularly useful, offering a breadth of information covering everything from Registration and Account to “How to Make Picks”, “Outcomes”, and “Fund Management”.

I also tested the live support and was pleasantly surprised by the service. I was connected to a support agent almost instantaneously, and my tricky questions surrounding the differences between Player and Team Picks were answered clearly.

How PrizePicks Compares to Other Prediction Markets
It may offer features similar to those of other Prediction Exchanges on the market, but PrizePicks has several key differences from its competitors.
Key Differences
Accessibility stands out as one of PrizePicks’ key strengths. There’s a low barrier to entry, particularly with the PlayerPicks feature, with an easy-to-understand interface that makes play a breeze.
Market depth, however, is shallower than most competitors’, with a focus on preset player props. Team and Culture Picks looks to address broader, tradable markets – but these aren’t currently comparable to the major Prediction Market platforms.
Who This Platform Is Best For
Although Team and Culture Picks are available, PrizePicks is best suited to sports-focused users who enjoy player props thanks to its unique Player Picks platform.
Thanks to its simple, easy-to-understand structure, it’s perfect for beginners and those new to the CFTC-regulated trading market.
Who Should Avoid It
PrizePicks may be a fantastic platform, but it’s not currently available outside the US, meaning international players can’t experience the software just yet.
Those expecting a traditional sportsbook experience or advanced trading will also be disappointed, likely feeling that the platform is restrictive. Features are somewhat lacking for those with experience in similar platforms.
| Platform | Regulation | Market depth | Fees | Accessibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PrizePicks | CFTC‑registered FCM and NFA member (Team & Culture Picks) | Sports‑focused markets with preset player props and limited trading depth | $0.005–$0.02 per contract on Team & Culture Picks; no explicit fees on Player Picks (built into pricing) | Mobile app or desktop (app required for account creation) |
| Gemini | CFTC-approved DCM | Strong breadth, but limited depth | $0.01 per $1 of trade value (maker) or $0.05 per $1 of trade value (taker) | Mobile app or desktop |
| Kalshi | Licensed exchange (proprietary) | Incredible depth across all categories | Tiered fees, frequently around $0.02 per contract | Mobile app or desktop |
| OG | CFTC-approved through partnership with Crypto.com Derivatives North America | Many categories (politics, culture, sports, etc.), but limited depth | $0.02 per contract (buying or selling) and occasional fees on debit or Venmo deposits | Mobile app or desktop |
Final Verdict – Is PrizePicks Worth Using?
PrizePicks is a simple, beginner-friendly, CFTC-regulated prediction platform that prioritizes ease of use for players. It’s fast, clean, and highly accessible – particularly with the Player Picks feature – but it lacks advanced trading tools and deep market flexibility.
Overall, PrizePicks is a fantastic platform for casual sports fans seeking a straightforward experience. However, if you’re an experienced bettor or trader looking for more complex functionality, you’ll be much better off with more advanced competitors.
