A DraftKings Casino player in Michigan has won the biggest online casino jackpot in US history, claiming a $9.28 million prize that was a year in the making. The player won the record-setting payout with a $0.20 side bet while playing the Irish Pot Luck slot.
The historic jackpot was part of DraftKings’ proprietary single-level progressive jackpot offering. There is a separate such jackpot for each state, but Michigan’s had been growing for a year, starting at $1 million in February 2024.
In an email announcing the record-breaking jackpot, DraftKings Vice President of iGaming Marketing and Operations Jason March said,
“It’s been exciting to watch this historic jackpot climb to a record-breaking $9.28 million, giving a DraftKings Casino customer in Michigan an incredible, life-changing experience while engaging with our product.
“To be able to award the largest online casino jackpot in U.S. history is an amazing testament to the DraftKings Casino team who work tirelessly to deliver customers a best-in-class experience. Congratulations to the winner, we look forward to celebrating our next big jackpot win.”

Jackpot shatters previous record by nearly $3 million
The $9.28 million jackpot beat the previous record by almost $3 million. In August 2024, a BetMGM Casino customer won $6.45 million playing Fruit Blaster.
Over the past year, DraftKings and BetMGM Casino and its sister site Borgata Casino have dominated the leaderboard for the biggest online casino slot wins in the US. Other notable payouts include:
- $4.06 million at Borgata Casino on the Bison Fury Megaways slot.
- $3.3 million at DraftKings Casino on the Ancient Fortunes: Zeus slot.
- $3.03 million at Borgata Casino on the Bison Fury slot.
- $2.84 million at BetMGM Casino on the MGM Grand Millions slot.
- $2.78 million at DraftKings Casino on the 10,000 Wonders 10K Ways slot.
The $9.28 million may stand for a while. However, DraftKings doesn’t cap its progressive jackpot network, meaning future prizes could surpass the $10 million mark. By contrast, BetMGM and Borgata limit their progressive jackpots. In New Jersey, the cap is $10 million, while elsewhere, it is $5 million. That makes the Garden State the only market where BetMGM or Borgata could challenge DraftKings for the record.
DraftKings has different jackpot offerings
As mentioned, the record-breaking jackpot came from DraftKings’ single-level progressive jackpot. In this format, players play for the chance to win a grand prize, which usually starts at $100,000. To participate, players must select an eligible game, opt in, and place an additional wager per spin (e.g., $0.10). DraftKings offers a wide range of options, with over 3,000 in New Jersey. According to DraftKings, it has awarded 60 single-level jackpots of over $1 million.
Another popular option is the multi-level progressive jackpot, which functions similarly but requires a higher additional wager (e.g., $0.25). This allows the operator to offer four different prize tiers: Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega. At the time of writing, the Mega Jackpot stood at $1.46 million.
Players looking for more frequent wins can choose the Must Hit By Amount format. These smaller jackpots must be won before they reach a certain threshold (e.g, $20,000). That means the player’s chances to win increase if the payout stands close to the must-hit by mark.
Depending on the state, not all jackpot formats may be available. Moreover, some jackpots and games are also available at Golden Nugget Online Casino, which DraftKings owns.
