FanDuel has introduced Bet Protect+, a new optional feature that offers full‑game injury protection on NBA Playoffs player prop bets, giving bettors a way to guard against losses caused by early in‑game injuries.
The feature expands on FanDuel’s original Bet Protect offering and is designed to address one of the most common complaints among player‑prop bettors: wagers being decided when a player exits a game early due to injury.
How Bet Protect+ Works
Bet Protect+ can be added to eligible pre‑game NBA player prop bets before submission. Bettors who activate the option pay an additional 3% fee based on their total stake.
If a player tied to a protected wager leaves the game due to injury and does not return:
- Straight bets are refunded in cash (stake only)
- Parlays have the injured leg removed, with remaining legs recalculated at adjusted odds
Refunds are typically processed within 24 hours after the game settles.
Eligible Bets and Restrictions
Bet Protect+ applies only to full‑game NBA playoff player props, including points, rebounds, assists, three‑pointers, and combo stats. The feature is not available for live bets or wagers placed after tipoff.
Protection is limited strictly to injury‑related exits. Bets are not covered if a player fouls out, is ejected, benched, or briefly leaves the game and later returns.
Availability by State
Bet Protect+ is available in most FanDuel‑regulated states but has not yet been approved in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. In those states, FanDuel continues to offer first‑quarter injury protection or bonus‑bet refunds when injuries occur.
What It Means for Bettors
With player props dominating NBA playoff betting, Bet Protect+ functions more like optional insurance than a traditional risk‑free bet. The 3% fee is not refundable, making the feature best suited for higher‑risk situations, such as players returning from injury or carrying heavy playoff workloads.
The launch positions FanDuel as one of the first U.S. sportsbooks to offer paid, full‑game injury protection during a major postseason.
