Horseshoe Online Casino is now open for business in Michigan, while WynnBet is gone for good. Caesars acquired WynnBet’s license and assets from Wynn Resorts in June and announced in July that it would eventually reboot it as Horseshoe, Caesars’ second brand in the state.

Caesars (Caesars Entertainment 44,47 +1,41%) originally expected to launch Horseshoe in September, so its arrival is only a couple of days overdue.

Existing WynnBet customers can migrate their accounts without needing to register again. Opening the old WynnBet app initiates the process and walks the player through the necessary steps.

Visiting the WynnBet Michigan website redirects the visitor to the Horseshoe website.

Most of the games WynnBet customers are used to playing can still be found at Horseshoe. Added to that are new progressive jackpots and some games that are exclusive to Caesars and weren’t available at WynnBet.

Aside from the visual presentation, perhaps the biggest change is that players migrating to Horseshoe will be automatically enrolled in the Caesars Rewards loyalty program.

This unified program spans all of Caesars’ products. Players can earn points at Horseshoe Casino or Caesars Palace Michigan. However, they can also do so using Caesars’ gambling apps in other states, visiting its retail properties, or even through its free-to-play games on Facebook.

Collecting points allows players to progress through six loyalty tiers and earn assorted rewards. The benefits range from free sports bets at the Caesars Palace sportsbook to discounted hotel stays to complimentary Uber Eats orders.

Why Did WynnBet Become Horseshoe?

Wynn Resorts (Wynn Resorts 105,45 +2,30%) was a latecomer to the online gambling space compared to other retail operators like MGM and Caesars. It launched its first app only in 2020, two years after the end of sports betting prohibition kicked off the online gambling boom. Perhaps because of that, the WynnBet brand never achieved much traffic in the crowded US online gambling market.

Starting in 2023, Wynn Resorts began shutting down its WynnBet sites. The Michigan online casino was the most successful and, therefore, the last one running.

Rather than shut its Michigan site down entirely, Wynn sold its license and assets to Caesars.

Although Caesars was already operating an online casino in the state, Michigan’s regulations are unusual in that they allow only one online brand per land-based casino partner. In other states, some operators have found value in offering multiple brands—for instance, BetMGM also operates Borgata Online, Party Casino, and Wheel of Fortune Casino.

In Michigan, that’s only possible for an operator with multiple partnerships. Until now, the only one in that position was DraftKings, thanks to its 2022 acquisition of Golden Nugget Online Gaming.

Horseshoe Online Casino operates in partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and their Kewadin Casino. Caesars Palace also has a tribal gaming partner in the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, whose flagship retail property is Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel.

Michigan is the first state in which Caesars is testing Horseshoe as an online brand. In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, it offers Caesars Palace as a standalone casino product and Caesars Sportsbook & Casino for sports-oriented players. Horseshoe-branded retail properties exist in eight states, including three in Louisiana alone.

Caesars CFO Eric Hession told investors in July that he expects Horseshoe to contribute significantly to Caesars’ Michigan iGaming revenue while still playing second fiddle to Caesars Palace. In August, WynnBet’s share of the Michigan market was 1.4%, while Caesars Palace held 6.4%.
