  • A congressional committee recently expanded its ongoing insider trading investigation into several prominent online prediction market platforms.
  • Lawmakers are specifically demanding detailed user identification records and trading logs to prevent individuals from exploiting nonpublic information.

Rep. James Comer has expanded a House Oversight Committee investigation into alleged insider trading on prediction markets, sending information requests to Hyperliquid Labs, Crypto.com, and Aristotle Exchange Inc., the owner of PredictIt.

The move broadens an inquiry that Comer, the top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, first opened in May with letters to Kalshi and Polymarket. The committee is now asking additional platforms to provide documents about customer identification practices and how they detect and report suspicious activity.

Comer said the investigation is focused on whether prediction market operators are meeting their legal obligations to prevent misuse of their platforms. In a statement cited with the probe, he said, “As online prediction platforms grow and become more mainstream, some bad actors have exploited the platforms to make thousands of dollars by placing bets based on nonpublic information.”

Committee seeks KYC and suspicious-activity details

According to the source report, the letters ask the companies for information about their customer identification procedures and their systems for identifying and referring suspicious activity.

Comer said, “The House Oversight Committee is investigating whether these platforms are fulfilling their legal obligations and doing enough to identify and prevent insider trading before it happens.”

The latest requests add to an already active congressional review of the sector. A committee spokesperson said the earlier Kalshi and Polymarket investigations are still ongoing. So far, the committee has received nearly 1,000 documents and five briefings from representatives of those two companies.

Hyperliquid trade cited as a key concern

The report says Comer specifically pointed to a transaction on Hyperliquid tied to a presidential announcement concerning U.S. tariff policy in October 2025. In his letter to Hyperliquid CEO Jeff Yan, Comer described “a substantial leveraged short position” placed within minutes of a decision that “was not publicly known at the time the position was established.”

Comer wrote that the trade appeared to mirror a broader pattern under review because it was “precisely timed to a nonpublic government decision” and was executed on a platform with “apparently no identity verification or mechanism to refer the responsible party to U.S. law enforcement.”

The article also notes previous insider-trading concerns across prediction markets. Those include the April arrest of a U.S. soldier accused of using inside information to bet on Polymarket, allegedly netting roughly $400,000, and scrutiny surrounding former Rep. George Santos. Kalshi permanently banned Santos in August and fined him $71,356.

What comes next is less clear. The committee’s letters expand the scope of the House inquiry, but the source report did not say when the companies must respond or whether any formal enforcement action will follow.
