Getting to Know Mike Epifani

I got my start in 2013 playing and writing about online casinos and sports betting before most of the current “experts” had even signed up for an account. What started as curiosity turned into a full-time obsession, learning how these platforms actually work, where the real value is, and how to consistently come out ahead.

When sports betting expanded in the U.S., I was already deep in it. Same with sweepstakes casinos. If a new platform launched, I wasn’t just reading about it. I was on it, testing bonuses, tracking payouts, and figuring out whether it was worth anyone’s time.

Over the years, I’ve written everything from quick-hit bonus breakdowns to deep-dive guides and industry analyses. But more importantly, I’ve built a reputation on actually knowing what I’m talking about. If I’m writing about it, I’ve played it, tested it, and cashed it out myself.

At this point, my approach is simple: find what works, ignore what doesn’t, and make sure readers don’t waste their time or money learning the hard way.

Q&A With Mike Epifani

I started playing online casinos and betting sports in 2013, then picked up freelance writing gigs on sites like Upwork (back when it was still oDesk), mostly doing slot reviews and basic casino content. From there, it snowballed. I kept writing, gaining new clients, and learning the industry, and it turned it into a full-time career after a few years of grinding.

When I started in 2013, everything felt fragmented, with limited legal options, tons of sketchy offshore sites, and very little transparency. Then PASPA was repealed in 2018 and the entire sports betting landscape opened up almost overnight. Since then, we’ve seen rapid legalization, better products (including high-quality mobile apps), and the rise of sweepstakes casinos and prediction markets as alternative paths. It’s gone from niche and confusing to mainstream, but also a lot more competitive and noisy.

Terms and conditions, immediately. Specifically wagering requirements, redemption minimums, and any restrictions buried in the fine print. A site can look great on the surface, but if the terms don’t make sense, nothing else matters. That’s usually where you find out if it’s worth your time.

I like straightforward offers with low playthrough and clear paths to cashing out. This is my philosophy whether at a real-money casino, sports betting site, sweeps casino, or anything else. I avoid anything with inflated match bonuses and high wagering requirements. Those look appealing upfront but are usually designed to keep you playing, not to help you actually withdraw.

They chase bonuses without understanding them. Players see a big number and assume that’s the value because they ignore wagering requirements and restrictions. That leads to overplaying, poor bankroll decisions, and ultimately losing more than they planned. The mistake isn’t in claiming the bonus, it’s not knowing how it actually works.

Discipline. The players who cash out understand when to stop, how to manage bonuses, and when they’ve hit a profitable point. Most players keep going until the balance disappears. Knowing when you’re “done” is the difference.

Using bonuses selectively instead of constantly. Not every offer is worth taking. The best players skip most promotions and only play the ones with real value: low wagering, favorable terms, or clear edges. Being selective makes a bigger impact than trying to maximize every single offer.

That two casinos can look almost identical and play completely differently. Same software, same games, same parent company, same “exclusive” bonus language – and totally different value once you dig into the terms, redemption rules, game weighting, support, and payout speed. The difference between a great site and a waste of time is usually buried three clicks and a few dozen scrolls deep.
