The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency has published June’s revenue report, and its six land-based casinos saw a decline of 1.4% year-over-year and an even higher drop of 9% from the month of May.
The Old Line State was able to generate $160.6 million in revenue from slot machines and table games in June. From this figure, Maryland casinos contributed $68.5 million to the state.
From the $68.5 million, $49.42 million was allocated to the Education Trust Fund. This money was about $954,000 short of what it submitted in the same period last year. The reduced tax rake will also affect funding for small, minority, and women-owned businesses; the horse racing sector; and local communities.
June dip fueled by biggest casinos
The June dip was largely caused by three of the state’s casinos:
- MGM National Harbor, the state’s leading driver of revenue and one of the largest casino facilities in the state, came in $67.17 million in revenue, which resulted in a 1.4% decline from June 2024.
- Over at Live! Casino & Hotel, which is pretty huge with its 3,826 slots and 179 table games, generated around $59 million in casino revenue. That amounted to a 2.4% drop compared to the same time last year.
- Hollywood Casino Perryville, which has 734 slot machines and 23 table games, had a tougher June. Its revenue came in at about $7.2 million, showing a 3.7% decline.
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, with its sizable crew of 1,359 slot machines and 115 table games, actually managed a little win, reporting a 0.8% gain to pull in around $14.2 million.
Ocean Downs and Rocky Gap also experienced year-over-year increases. Ocean Downs, with its smaller footprint of 891 slots and 19 table games, climbed by 4.3%, reaching $8.5 million for the month.
Rocky Gap Casino practically hit the snooze button on change. Its June revenue was essentially flat at $4,594,322, showing a minuscule increase of just $2,000, 0.04%, from June 2024.
Maryland casinos close FY25 with over $1.8 billion
Meanwhile, June coming to an end also marked the end of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming 2025 fiscal year. And what was the result for this year? It turns out the casinos raked in over $1.8 billion in total revenue.
While that’s only a slight increase of 0.5% compared to last year, hitting that kind of figure is definitely something to talk about. It shows how much money is still flowing through those tables and slot machines, even if the growth is just a trickle.
MGM National Harbor brought in $838.4 million from its slots and table games combined. Right behind, Live! Casino & Hotel also had a really strong year, hitting nearly $719.8 million in total revenue.
Further down the list, Horseshoe Casino generated $172.0 million, while Ocean Downs Casino wasn’t too far off, pulling in $93.8 million.
Then you’ve got Hollywood Casino Perryville, which saw around $88.6 million. Rocky Gap Resort Casino rounded things out with $52.3 million in total revenue for the fiscal year.
