Last week, 850 employees at eight of Maverick Gaming’s casinos received closure notices, informing them that the properties would be shuttered. Now they’ve learned that they will keep their jobs.

Maverick Washington LLC is currently in bankruptcy proceedings, and part of that process included shuttering eight casinos. The impacted casinos are Great American Casino in Everett, Macau Casino and Palace Casino in Lakewood, Chip’s Casino, All Star Casino in Silverdale, Coyote Bobs Casino in Kennewick, Casino Caribbean in Yakima, and Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco.

Closure notices create confusion

While the notices were sent to Maverick Washington LLC’s HR Director, Christine Wisniewski, they indicated that the sites could remain operational if a new owner is identified. The new owner turned out to be the existing owner, Eric Persson, who moved to buy the casinos back.

Speaking on the confusion of the situation, Persson told MyNorthwest.com that the notices simply involved terminating the employees from the company and then rehiring them with the new company.

“The employees are being terminated as it relates to the old company and being hired by the new company, but the properties themselves will stay open. It would have been helpful, I think, if the WARN notice said that you know there was an expected transition with another party, and these properties are expected to remain open.

I’m trying to make sure these properties stay open, these jobs stay in place.”

That’s certainly music to the ears of 850 staff who feared they were out of work. The closure notices affected jobs in gaming, food service, security, and management.

Owner takes issue with bankruptcy characterization

Eric Persson disagrees with the qualification that Maverick Gaming is currently involved in bankruptcy proceedings. He stated that in July of 2025, he transferred all of the company’s assets to the company’s lenders, who then moved to file for bankruptcy under a different company.

He then bought back the Maverick Gaming name.

“Maverick Gaming is not a party to the bankruptcy. We’re a separate company. These card rooms are staying open.”
