Online casino players in the Keystone State have a new way to play following Mohegan Digital’s full launch of its branded Pennsylvania online casino. Starting today, players can access “no shortage of thrilling slots, table games, and more” through their browser or by downloading the apps for iPhone and Android. Pennsylvania’s newest online platform entry follows Unibet‘s recently shared plan to exit the US market.
In the launch announcement, Mohegan Digital’s Rich Roberts, president of the MGE iGaming arm, said that taking Mohegan’s online casino brand to Pennsylvania is a great opportunity.
This is an exciting moment for Mohegan Digital as we expand our very own online gaming brand to Pennsylvania, in close coordination with Mohegan Pennsylvania. Our growth with the MoheganSunCasino.com app in Connecticut and New Jersey continues to surpass expectations, as does our PlayFallsView app in Ontario, CA. To now have our fourth launch in the great state of Pennsylvania marks another great opportunity for Mohegan Digital!
Pennsylvania is only the second state where Mohegan Sun will operate on its own platform, the other being New Jersey. The Mohegan Tribe also operates a site in its home state of Connecticut, but FanDuel provides the technology. That means the product is quite different in Connecticut, while the Pennsylvania site resembles that in New Jersey.
Unibet US Departure Opens Door
Today’s Keystone launch follows a January Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) meeting where Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) shared its plan to reclaim Unibet’s interactive license.
In late 2023, Unibet—Mohegan’s Pennsylvania online partner—announced its intention to exit the US by the summer of 2024. The company recently confirmed its last day in Pennsylvania will be June 21, 2024.
That late June departure will put an end to Unibet’s US struggles. Despite its popularity in the UK, the brand failed to make much of a US impact. Even a modest goal of 2% market share (equivalent to a top 10 operator) was out of reach.
In fact, after peaking at over 11% in mid-2020, Unibet’s Pennsylvania online casino market share slipped to about 0.8% in December 2023. In New Jersey, for 2024, Unibet’s online casino market share is only 0.16%. While not much higher, Mohegan’s New Jersey share over the same period sits around 0.50%.
Mohegan Rebrand Coming to Sportsbook Too
At launch, Mohegan’s new Pennsylvania platform has over 500 games, including slots, table games, live dealer options, and daily jackpots. By summer, Mohegan expects to have 700 titles available. In the meantime, time players already have access to popular titles like Wheel of Fortune, Slingo, Deal or No Deal, and Vegas Nights, among many more.
Guy Greene, Mohegan Digital’s vice president of marketing, noted Mohegan’s commitment to providing an “unmatched online gaming platform.”
Creating a fun, immersive and user-friendly experience, combined with reliability and great guest service are features that Mohegan Digital have become synonymous with, and we’re thrilled to bring it all to Pennsylvania.
To further that intention, MGE will sync online accounts with Mohegan Pennsylvania’s popular Momentum rewards program later this spring. So, whether Pennsylvania customers play online or in person, they’ll accumulate benefits in one place.
Along with the launch of its new online casino, the company is planning a rebrand of the existing Unibet sportsbook at Mohegan Pennsylvania Casino Resort in Wilkes-Barre. Mohegan Pennsylvania’s off-track betting locations in Lehigh Valley and Allentown will also get a makeover as part of the rebrand.
Mohegan says guests should watch for relaunch news and updates on the casino’s website.
