Bonus TL;DR

  • Pennsylvania’s online casino market grew 6.25% year-over-year in August, generating $245.7 million in gross gaming revenue and contributing $113.5 million in state tax revenue.
  • Market growth was unevenly distributed: Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course expanded its dominant lead to , while Mount Airy Casino Resort exited the market entirely after reporting zero revenue for the month.

Pennsylvania’s online casino market grew 6.25% in August. The growth wasn’t shared evenly.

Online casinos in the state generated $245.7 million for the month, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s report released Thursday, up from $231.2 million a year earlier. The state collected $113.5 million in tax revenue off that total.

Behind that headline number, market share moved. Some operators are grabbing a bigger piece of a bigger pie. Others are losing ground even in a market that’s expanding.

Which Pennsylvania online casinos are gaining ground

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course picked up the most share of anyone. Its online casino revenue hit $95.4 million in August, good for 38.82% of the entire state’s iGaming market, up from 36.96% a year ago. That’s an operator growing faster than the market around it.

Bally’s Pennsylvania and Mohegan Pennsylvania told a similar story off smaller bases. Bally’s share climbed to 2.21% from 1.52%. Mohegan’s climbed to 1.22% from 0.76%. Neither operator moves the needle on total dollars yet. Both are growing revenue faster than the market as a whole, and that’s the number worth tracking.

Valley Forge Casino Resort stayed the number two operator in the state, at $67.5 million. Its share slipped to 27.46% from 29.23%, even as its dollar total barely moved. Standing still while the market grows around you still shows up as losing ground.

Live! Casino Philadelphia had the roughest month of anyone at scale. Its online casino revenue fell 49.81% year over year, and its market share dropped to 0.79% from 1.67%, the steepest slide on the board. Wind Creek Bethlehem lost share too, down to 0.47% from 0.92%.

One operator left the market entirely. Mount Airy Casino Resort reported no online casino revenue in August, after bringing in $2.7 million a year earlier. The casino stopped offering internet gaming during the month, according to the PGCB.

Pennsylvania’s online casino market is still growing. Which operator is growing fastest inside it is the more useful question for anyone deciding where to actually play.
