Bonus TL;DR

  • Prediction markets tied to NFL Week 3 generated a massive $8.5 billion in weekend notional volume, highlighting how heavily traditional sports events are driving activity on U.S.-focused event-contract platforms.
  • According to data reported by Covers, Kalshi dominated the weekend by processing 68% of Sunday’s reported trading, while the U.S. division of Polymarket continued to gain market share as traders heavily backed top matchups like the Rams-Broncos game.

Prediction markets tied to NFL Week 3 generated $8.5 billion in weekend notional volume, with nine of 11 reporting exchanges producing $4.47 billion on Sunday alone, according to Covers.

The figures show how heavily sports events, especially NFL games, are driving activity on U.S.-focused prediction platforms. Sports and combo markets made up 86% of Sunday trading, while Kalshi remained the dominant venue and Polymarket’s U.S. division posted a week-over-week gain in share.

Kalshi led Sunday trading while Polymarket U.S. gained share

Kalshi accounted for $3.04 billion of reported Sunday volume, or 68% of the total, after posting $3.03 billion on Saturday. Covers reported that it was only the third time Kalshi had reached $3 billion in a single day.

The outlet said Kalshi represented 54% of sports trading and 77% of combo trading on Sunday, totaling more than $2.7 billion across those categories.

Polymarket’s U.S. division also grew. Its Sunday volume rose 28.3% from the prior week and accounted for 17% of all reported volume, up from 14% a week earlier.

Total taker volume reached $780.1 million on Sunday, up from $711.9 million on Saturday.

NFL markets drove the biggest individual trading totals

Individual NFL games generated more than $700 million in Week 3 volume, slightly above the $695.4 million reported the previous Sunday.

The Rams-Broncos game led all individual NFL matchups with $152.3 million in trading volume. Other top games included Ravens-Cowboys at $77.4 million and Seahawks-Commanders at $64.2 million. Covers also reported that Chargers-Bills and Chiefs-Dolphins each topped $50 million.

Kalshi reportedly handled about 85% of the Rams-Broncos total and at least 50% of volume in eight of 13 other NFL games tracked in the report.

College football and soccer added to the weekend total

Saturday’s college football slate helped lift overall weekend notional trading by 2.7% week over week. Combo plays rose from $2.30 billion on Sept. 19 to $2.51 billion on Sept. 26.

No single NCAA game reached $100 million, but college football game volume still increased 14.4% from the previous week. Ole Miss-Florida led that group at nearly $87 million, followed by Northwestern-Indiana at $76.6 million, Texas-Tennessee at $73.2 million, and Clemson-Cal at $71.3 million.

Outside U.S. football, the UEFA Nations League match between England and Spain generated $28.4 million in trading volume.

Covers’ report points to another strong sports weekend for prediction markets, with NFL games continuing to produce the largest single-event totals and college football helping sustain activity across Saturday trading.
