After a long summer break, the PokerGO Tour returned to the PokerGO Studio at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The PGT PLO Series will run from September 24 to October 3, followed immediately by the Super High Roller Bowl Series, which features a $103,000 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament as well as a $103,000 No-Limit Hold’em event.
It wouldn’t be the PokerGO Tour without Sam Soverel and, as luck would have it, he took down the series-opening $5,000 Kickoff event. The 91-entry event created a $455,000 prize pool, with Soverel earning the $122,850 top prize and his record-extending 16th PGT title.
After reigning Super High Roller Bowl PLO champion John Riordan burst the bubble, the top 13 clinched a healthy $11,375 min-cash. Notables who cashed but didn’t make the final table include recent $200,000 Triton Invitational Jeju champion João Simão (8th, $18,200) and seven-time WSOP bracelet winner Josh Arieh (12th, $11,375).
The first to exit the final table was recent WSOP Circuit Canada Super High Roller champion Michael Wang, followed by Sean Winter, who earned his first cash since the WSOP.
John Dapkus sent Ariel Mantel and James Chen home to create three-handed play. Unfortunately, he lost his chip lead and was eventually busted by Soverel to set up a heads-up confrontation with Austria’s Jonas Kronwitter.
Soverel won the event after both players got all in on a T♥️7♥️3♣️ flop.
Kronwitter: A♥️8♥️6♣️3♥️
Soverel: A♦️A♣️5♦️2♣️
Despite Kronwitter having a 63% chance to win with the nut-flush draw, a pair, and a straight draw against Soverel’s naked aces, the 5♠️7♣️ runout gave Soverel the win.
With the victory, Soverel became just the 35th player in poker history to reach $33 million in career live tournament earnings.
