How We Rate Sweepstakes Casinos: Bonus Power Index (BPI) Ratings System

Every sweepstakes casino player wants to make money. Similarly, every new player wants to have fun and know they aren’t being ripped off. Understanding this, we (the experts) at Bonus.com have developed a proprietary ratings system that evaluates over 100 online sweepstakes casino platforms through this prism. If platforms aren’t serving you — the user — our ratings will reflect that, regardless of how much they’re paying us. This is a system that values bonuses, games, and popularity.

This is the Bonus Power Index (BPI) Ratings System.

The Bonus Power Index (BPI) Ratings System: How We Rate Sweepstakes Casinos

The Bonus Power Index (BPI) Ratings System is a barometer for where sweepstakes casino platforms stand at any given time. Unlike other static rating systems, BPI is a dynamic scoring structure that responds to changes in underlying criteria. If a sweepstakes casino lowers its total bonus amount, for example, its composite score will suffer. If that same platform were to add more, in-demand games or raise its bonus, its score would improve.

Understandably, people seek certain attributes of these platforms more than others. Each element of our ratings system is assigned a weight, with free sweeps coins being the most important feature.

The weights for our ratings are as follows:

  • Sweeps Coins: 30%
  • Game Total: 20%
  • Popularity: 20%
  • Gold Coins: 10%
  • App Store Rating: 10%
  • Google Play: 10%

Rating Criteria

Coins and Cash Prize Icon money bag cash

Sweepstakes Coin (SC) Bonus Score (30%)

The money-making apparatus of the whole operation. This score measures the value of a sweepstakes coin bonus relative to other operators. Casinos earn points depending on their SC value and playthrough requirement (bonus ÷ playthrough). The lower the expected withdrawal amount is for a given user, the lower a platform’s SC score.

Game Variety Score (20%)

From slots to table games, this metric reflects game library breadth. While we do provide analysis on which operators specialize in which vertical, this parameter prioritizes total number of games.

Popularity Score (20%)

If your friend were to jump off a bridge…would you? When it comes to sweepstakes casinos, we’ve defined popularity as reach via total Google/AI search volume. Ultimately, this data point translates into normalized points for visibility and traffic relevance.

Gold Coin (GC) Bonus Score (10%)

This metric evaluates non-redeemable coin bonuses (for entertainment play). Though Gold Coins don’t hold real world value, they do give users a chance to learn how to play games at no cost to themselves. The higher the GC value, the smoother the bonus curve.

iOS App Store Icon

App Store Rating (10%)

Derived from an operator’s app store rating on the iOS app store. This is a purely external metric.

Google Play Icon

Google Play Store Rating Score (10%)

This is derived from an operator’s Google Play store rating. If a platform does have a mobile app, this can be a good gauge for how they’re perceived by the public.

Here is an example of how we derive a 1-5 rating for a sweepstakes casino’s Gold Coin bonus. Like other criteria, each rating is set relative to the competition on a logarithmic scale. Here’s how we calculate it:

Based on the inputs for each of the variables above (Gold Coins, Sweeps Coins, App/Google Play Store Ratings, and Popularity), here’s how we derived the respective composite scores for each brand.

Raw numbers from each category are then converted to a 25-point scale to adjust for aggregation and normalization across different units of measurement — whether that be coins, app-store ratings, or Google search performance. Each 25-point score is then converted to a 1-5 score with a logarithmic curve applied.

Why We Use This Curve

We use this curve to adjust for outliers and make it so proportional gains matter. If one sweepstakes casino offers significantly more gold coins than another, other competitors won’t automatically be relegated to a 1-2 star rating. An example of this when it comes to Gold Coin scores is as follows:

  • 100k → 200k (2×) gets a healthy star jump
  • 1.0M → 1.1M (+100k, but only +10%) gets a much smaller jump
  • 1.75M → 2.0M (close together at the top) might be 4.9★ → 5.0★ after rounding rules, not a huge gap

Said plainly, each category uses the most comparable, public or directly provided data we can get, then we turn it into stars using the same rules for every brand.

Step-by-Step Rating Process

  1. Normalizing the Data

We first convert raw inputs to a 0–25 internal points scale for easy aggregation and normalization across very different units (coins, counts, ratings).

We then convert points to 1–5★ category stars using a logarithmic curve.
Why Do We Use This Curve?

    • Prevents a single giant offer from crushing everyone else near 1★.
    • Makes proportional gains matter: a 2× improvement at the low end should move stars more than a tiny absolute bump at the top.
  2. Prioritizing What Users Want

SC Value: combine SC Bonus Value and divide it by playthrough to get SC/PT Value; scale to 25 points; apply log curve → SC Curve (★).
GC Value: GC Bonus Value → 25 points → log curve → GC Curve (★).
App Store & Google Play: pull latest ratings; map rating ranges (e.g., 4.8–5.0) to 25 points; curve → App/Play Curve (★).
Game Total: raw game count → 25 points → curve → Game Total Curve (★).
Popularity: We create a simple numerical ranking for operators based on their branded search volume → map to 25 points → curve → Pop. Curve (★).

  3. Identifying Edge Cases

If a brand has 0★ in a category because the feature isn’t offered (e.g., no app), we exclude that category from both:

    • the numerator (stars × weight), and
    • the denominator (the effective weight sum).
    • This re-normalizes the weights across what the brand actually offers, so you’re comparing like-for-like.

Bonus.com’s Commitment to Transparency in Rankings For Sweepstakes Casinos

Our sweepstakes casino ratings system ensures absolute transparency and fairness through automated, auditable processes, with no human bias—every casino is scored identically. The same math applies universally via a fully automated script that runs on a cron job, with no manual overrides permitted.

Platforms that don’t offer relevant features are excluded from the average rather than penalized. For instance, if a casino has no mobile app, that category is marked N/A and the average is calculated only over available categories.

A comprehensive changelog tracks all changes and we re-publish data QA checks, verifying that stars per category fall within [0,5] (with maxima at 5.0 only for top performers and zeros only if a feature is absent). Overall, scores stay within [0,5], while monitoring distribution to prevent bunching (>20% at 4.5+) or drift. The monthly refresh process involves pulling fresh data from APIs, running the script to generate new stars, passing QA, and publishing with an updated changelog—complete with an audit trail of all runs logged by timestamps and hashes.

How to Interpret the Ratings

The Bonus Power Index (BPI) Ratings System is a comprehensive indicator for where we believe different platforms stack up against one another based on popular user preferences.

If you prioritize something different than the average user we encourage you to identify the component that matters most to you, and evaluate each operator on that basis. Below is a table for each major online sweepstakes casino.

What People Also Asked About the Bonus Power Index (BPI) Rankings System

The Bonus Power Index separates itself from other rankings in the sense that it is transparent with its rating criteria and updates its scores in real time.

We turn each category into 1–5★ using a curve, then combine them using the weights listed here. Missing categories aren’t counted against a brand. Scores update regularly as the market changes. No manual overrides.

Our ranking prioritize what the user wants. Given users generally prefer the real-money upside of a sweeps coin bonus (over a gold coin bonus), our ratings sytem will reward a website/app that has a high sweeps coin rating and a low gold coin rating more than the alternative.

No. Zeros are excluded from the averages so “not offered” doesn’t penalize the overall.
