Both real money online casinos and sweepstakes casinos are illegal in the state of Washington, leaving limited legal gaming options for WA players. In fact, Washington is one of only two states where you can’t redeem cash prizes at sweepstakes casinos, and it’s the only state that bars even registering at them.

That said, players looking to enjoy casino games can play for free right here on Bonus.com, as well as at social casinos that don’t offer cash prizes. Let’s take a closer look at the options below.

History of Gambling in Washington

The history of gambling in Washington began with legal horse racing betting in 1933. Later, in 1972, Washington voters voted to allow gambling activities, which launched in 1973. This ballot measure led to the creation of a gambling commission and allowed pull tabs, bingo, raffles, and fundraisers. Card rooms were approved shortly after in 1974. Casino gambling truly began in the state in 1988 when Congress authorized tribal casinos. However, tribes were unable to operate slot machines until 1999.

Currently, most forms of online gambling remain illegal in the state of Washington.

Washington Online Casinos – Bottom Line

All in all, the Washington online casino landscape is barren, with next to no legal online gambling options allowed in the state. That said, Washington players can still take advantage of free games both here and on social casinos, as well as enjoy a plethora of land-based casinos. Of course, the hope is that online casinos become legal at some point to increase the available options for casino gambling and making Washington one of the USA online casino states.
