Maryland Sports Betting Bonuses

Maryland sports betting is set to launch sometime in early 2022. It’s been a long delay for those closely following developments, but a market of up to 47 retail locations and 60 different online sports betting apps is coming. While sports betting is officially legal in Maryland, regulators must license sportsbooks across the state.

Sports betting in Mayland was approved in a referendum last year, so the state will soon join the rapidly expanding US legal market. Governor Larry Hogan signed off on HB 940 to officially legalize the activity in Maryland, and sports bettors can expect tons of options. For now, retail locations will be given a focus to launch before the football season ends. Online sports betting isn’t likely to be available until next year.

The Newest Updates On Maryland Sports Betting

The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) is responsible for awarding sports operators licenses within the state. They’ve held multiple meetings since forming, but have yet to officially provide licenses to these organizations. Applications are further reviewed and investigated by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA).

Additional meetings will be held in the future to formally approve licenses for sports gaming operators. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18, 2021. Approval for licensing and going over amended rules is likely, but additional weeks are needed to complete the process for beyond that. Establishments not named in the Sports Wagering Law could wait for a later launch in 2022.

Regulations were officially published in the Maryland Register at the end of August. After the conclusion of the public commenting period on September 27, another review of the rules and regulations will take place at a later date. When that’s completed, this ends the rule-making process for sports betting in the state.

Once the regulations are ironed out, Maryland residents can expect 47 retail sportsbook licenses at bars and restaurants and smaller off-track betting venues, and up to a whopping 60 mobile sports betting licenses.

The Old Line State will likely draw some of the industry’s biggest brands to the state. There are already many partnerships in place, including BetMGM and Caesars with the Baltimore Ravens, FanDuel with the Maryland Live! Casino and Hotel, and PointsBet with Riverboat on the Potomac.

Legal Online Sportsbooks In Maryland

Maryland bettors will have up to 60 different online sports betting options by the fall or winter. Here are seven of the best Maryland sportsbook apps, and their lucrative bonus offers:

Maryland Online Sportsbooks Bonuses November 2021

People anticipating online sports betting in Maryland may need to wait until after the football season. MLGCA Director John A. Martin is still hoping that betting can happen around the turn of the calendar year. Unfortunately, mobile betting looks to be further away with a launch expected at some point in 2022.

Maryland is situated to have more options than any other US state. But even in a sea of online sports betting apps in Maryland, the following offers are sure to shine through. Here are some examples of promotions and bonuses that bettors can expect:

            DraftKings Maryland

As one of the most prominent sports betting brands in the US, DraftKings was always going to launch in Maryland. DraftKings DFS is already available in the state, and DraftKings Sportsbook is sure to follow.

Then new players can receive a 20% deposit match up to $1,000 with the standard welcome bonus offer. It’s credited to your account as $1 for every $25 in real-money wagered. So if you plan on betting at DraftKings Sportsbook for the long term, then you can get a big deposit bonus by depositing the maximum ($5,000), although any amount between $5 and $5,000 is fine. Terms and conditions apply.

            BetMGM Maryland

            • Our favorite app for its loyalty program and ongoing promotions and bonus offers

Claim bonus offer with our exclusive link at Caesars

William Hill was one of the top sports betting brands in the UK. However, Caesars Entertainment bought out William Hill US, which means the Maryland app will launch as Caesars Sportsbook.

But you can expect the same quality from both platforms. Plus, placing bets on the app earns Caesars Rewards points, which can be used at in-person Caesars Entertainment properties, including Harrah’s and Horseshoe.

The current welcome bonus is up to a $1,001 first bet match. After creating an account, a bettor can place up to a $1,001 wager that is matched by the sportsbook. This is given to the player when the bet settles, regardless of whether it wins or loses.

Caesars Entertainment is part owner and wholly manages Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, which gives the brand early access to Maryland. It also has a partnership with the Baltimore Ravens to offer branding within the stadium. Of course, that also includes exclusive Ravens odds boosters and other promotions.

            BetRivers Maryland

            • Best for easily turning bonus cash into withdrawable winnings due to the 100% deposit match up to $250 with 1x playthrough requirements
            • Availability: iOS app, Android app, web browser
            • Our favorite sports betting bonus offer in the US

Claim bonus offer with our exclusive link at BetRivers

In February 2021, BetRivers announced market access in Maryland pending licensing and regulations. The details are unclear, but that near-guarantees their presence in the state.

When BetRivers Maryland does launch, you’ll want to grab the welcome bonus. Terms and conditions apply, but the 1x playthrough requirement means you only need to bet the bonus amount one time before the winnings are withdrawable. Those are truly unbeatable stipulations. Just make sure every bet (as little as $1 up to $250) is placed on odds -200 or longer.

            FanDuel Maryland

            • Best terms for a risk-free bet offer, a $1,000 risk-free bet that’s refunded as betting credits rather than free bets
            • Availability: iOS app, Android app, web browser
            • Our favorite for combination of sports betting and daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests

Claim bonus offer with our exclusive link at FanDuel

FanDuel partnered with Maryland Live! to launch a sports betting app as well as open a retail sportsbook. Because of this existing deal, FanDuel will be among the first online sportsbooks to launch in the state.

New members at FanDuel Maryland can place their first bet risk-free up to $1,000. If the bet loses, you receive betting credits equal to your wager rather than a single free bet. Betting credits also only need to be bet 1x to become withdrawable cash too. Additional terms and conditions apply.

            PointsBet Maryland

            • Best for 2 risk-free bets up to $2,000 (fixed-odds bet & totals multiplier PointsBetting wager)
            • Availability: iOS app, Android app, web browser
            • Highly creative promotions, like the PointsBetting feature, guaranteed best odds, and more

Claim your PointsBet promo code BESTBONUS with this link

PointsBet partnered with Riverboat on the Potomac to bring online and retail sports betting to the state. Like FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars, that makes PointsBet Maryland a likely contender for first to launch in the state.

New members at PointsBet Maryland should try PointsBetting risk-free before deciding whether they want to do that type of bet. PointsBet also offers a huge market depth for standard fixed-odds betting too, like a moneyline and points spreads.

A PointsBetting wager is a form of totals betting. The number of points over or under a points total creates a multiplier that applies to your winnings as well as losses. So it’s as risky as it is rewarding.

With the PointsBet promo code above, you can place both types of wagers risk-free. New members get two risk-free bets up to $2,000 total, up to $500 on a fixed-odds bet, and up to $1,500 on a PointsBetting wager.

Sports Betting Bonuses In Maryland – What To Expect

            Risk-Free Bet

A risk-free bet offer is usually reserved for new members of an online sportsbook. If your first bet wins, you receive winnings and your wager back. If your first bet loses, you get either multiple free bets, a single free bets, or betting credits equal to the lost wager.

Be sure to read the terms and conditions before opting in.

            Deposit Bonus

A deposit bonus is where the sports betting app matches your deposit by a certain percentage up to a maximum amount.

For example, the BetRivers Maryland bonus offer will be a 100% match up to $250, which essentially doubles your first deposit. But the DraftKings Maryland welcome bonus is a 20% deposit match up to $1,000, which gets you $1 in bonus money for every $25 you wager.

Deposit bonuses are usually tied to a playthrough requirement, which is how many times you have to bet the bonus amount before you can cash out associated winnings.

            Insurance Offers

An insurance offer is a common ongoing promotion at online sportsbooks. It usually has to do with receiving all or part of a wager back depending on how things pan out. Here are some examples:

            • Parlay Insurance: If one leg loses a four-leg parlay, you get your bet back up to $25.
            • In-Game Event Insurance: If your team loses but a certain player scores, you get your bet back up to $20.

            Odds Boosters

The biggest and best sportsbook apps in Maryland will offer tons of odds boosters. This is exactly what it sounds like: the profit margin on a bet is boosted by a certain amount. For example, BetMGM Parlay Plus increases the profit on a seven-leg parlay by 40%.

            Refer A Friend

Most online sportsbooks will reward you for bringing friends onto the app. The terms of refer-a-friend programs vary wildly by each platform, but most give you some incentive for sharing your unique join link with other bettors.

Legalized Forms Of Gambling In Maryland

Other forms of gambling in Maryland include horse race betting, Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), sweepstakes casinos, and sweepstakes poker sites. DFS has been legal since 2017. Sports betting is the latest addition and one that Maryland bettors have been very much anticipating.

            Maryland Online Sports Betting Overview

Maryland is home to six land-based casinos, each of which stands as a strong candidate to apply for an online sports betting license. The state’s two racetracks, which include Pimlico Race Course (home of the Preakness Stakes), will likely want a piece of Maryland’s online sports betting industry as well.

The Washington Football Team could also apply to offer mobile sports betting, with owner Dan Snyder stating his interest in doing so. In fact, FanDuel Sportsbook already offers online sports betting in Virginia through a partnership with Washington Football Team’s practice facility in Richmond.

The emerging Maryland market will almost certainly include DraftKings and FanDuel, both of which funded a pro-betting media campaign in the weeks leading up to the November 2020 election. Other brands likely to enter the Maryland market include BetMGM, FOX Bet, PointsBet, and several others.

BetMGM operates a casino in Maryland at Washington National Harbor and also was the first to announce a partnership with the Baltimore Ravens. DraftKings and Caesars also have a sports betting partnership with the Ravens. That features their sportsbook property marketed across the stadium and digital media.

Online Sports Betting Apps In Maryland

Legal online sportsbooks generally offer access to players via mobile app or directly through a desktop browser. Mobile app downloads offer the highest degree of freedom, as Maryland’s upcoming online sportsbooks will allow players to wager from anywhere within state borders.

The desktop versions of Maryland’s online sportsbooks offer the simplicity of just visiting a sportsbook website and wagering directly from there, however.

Maryland Sportsbook Apps For Apple iOS Devices

Apple iOS device owners can find mobile sportsbook apps at the App Store. Legal mobile sportsbooks virtually always offer their apps as a free download.

Mobile sports betting apps download to your mobile device in seconds in most cases. From there you can check out any new player promotions and sign up for a new account.

The mobile app version of an online sportsbook generally offers all of the same deposit and withdrawal options as its desktop counterpart. The companies behind these apps optimize the experience for your mobile device, putting the full-service sportsbook experience in the palm of your hand.

Maryland Sportsbook Apps For Android Devices

Most legal online sportsbooks make sure to develop a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. These are found in their respective marketplaces to download for free (App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android). In the past, Google Play did not offer sports betting applications on their platform, but that’s no longer the case.

The functionality of a mobile sports betting app is the same for both Apple and Android users. People log into their accounts after opening the app and navigate through to select and place their bets. There may also be various login options available, including utilizing biometrics or a pin to bypass a typical password. Some additional login and deposit/withdrawal restrictions may be implemented based on the state.

            Maryland Sportsbook Apps For Desktop

Most major desktop browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, allow access to online sportsbooks. A download for determining location is generally required, and some sportsbooks may require their own services. This is a quick process that won’t harm devices and is only used to determine if the bettor is located in a legally approved area.

Similar to the mobile apps, the desktop version of an online sportsbook uses geolocation technology to determine a user’s location when wagering at the site. Only bets made from within Maryland are allowed, and players trying to wager from outside state lines will be blocked from doing so.

History Of Maryland Online Sports Betting

Online sports betting adds Maryland to the growing list of states to legalize online sports betting. In April 2021, the Maryland General Assembly approved a plan for online sports betting. On May 25, 2021, the Maryland Lottery, which will regulate online gambling in the state, added resources on sports betting to its website.

            Best Maryland Online Sportsbook Apps

Now that Maryland sports betting has the green light, Maryland bettors can likely expect a market that will include apps from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, PointsBet, and many other major players in the sports betting market.

Both retail and mobile sports betting is live in states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, two of the biggest sports betting markets in the US. In both of those states, more than 80 percent of overall sports betting revenue comes from online betting.

            Maryland Sports Betting FAQs

Is online sports betting legal in Maryland?

Sports betting is legal as of November 2020, but the details and regulations of Maryland’s sports betting industry are still being finalized. Maryland residents should anticipate retail sports betting as the calendar turns to 2022, but online betting will likely happen later.

How old do I need to be to bet on sports online in Maryland?

            21. The minimum age for retail sports betting in Maryland will be set at 21, the same age required to play at one of Maryland’s legal casinos. Online sports betting will come with the same minimum age requirement.

            Is online sports betting safe?

Yes, if its conducted on state-regulated, legal online sports betting sites. Placing an online sports bet at a legal mobile sportsbook comes with the same level of security as playing any game inside of a Maryland casino.

Offshore, non-regulated sportsbook, on the other hand, can’t offer the same level of security. Depositing at an offshore sportsbook means risking the chance you may never see your money again.

Does BetMGM have a sports betting app in Maryland?

Not yet, but it almost certainly will once sportsbooks officially launch. MGM National Harbor operates as one of the most popular casinos in Maryland. Both the casino and the BetMGM brand are owned by MGM Resorts.

MGM National Harbor will very likely install a BetMGM retail sportsbook on its property. A BetMGM mobile sports betting app is almost certain to launch as well.

Does DraftKings offer a sports betting app in Maryland?

Not yet, but it’s very likely a DraftKings Sportsbook app will launch in Maryland once sportsbooks launch in the state. DraftKings might have to partner with an existing land-based casino, racetrack, or stadium in order to operate in Maryland.

Do I have to be a resident of Maryland to bet at a legal online sportsbook?

No. The new law will only require bettors to be located within Maryland state borders at the time of making a wager.

Online sports betting sites use geolocation technology to determine a user’s location when making a bet. Players attempting to bet from outside of the state will be blocked from wagering.

            Who regulates gambling in Maryland?

The Maryland State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency. This organization functions as a state-level government agency tasked with overseeing and regulating Maryland’s casinos. All of Maryland’s upcoming sports betting brands will fall under the jurisdiction of the MLGCA and must gain additional approval from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission.

How do I cash out from an online sportsbook?

Legal mobile sportsbooks offer several convenient ways to withdraw funds after you win. Some of these methods include PayPal, ACH/eCheck, credit/debit cards, Play+ Prepaid, and casino cage cash deposits/withdrawals.

Can I bet on college sports in Maryland?

Yes. Legally, you will be able to place wagers on college teams. This includes wagering on colleges within the state, such as the Maryland Terrapins.
