Mississippi state flagMississippi online casinos are an odd case: one of the largest land-based casino markets in the country, but no real-money online casinos available. The best Mississippi online casinos come in the form of free-to-play social casinos, where the games are identical to what you would find at a licensed site but the coins carry no cash value...Read More

That changed recently. Mississippi never passed a sweepstakes ban, but the Gaming Commission started issuing cease-and-desist orders in mid-2025 and most operators responded by switching off Sweeps Coin play for Mississippi players rather than testing it. Gold Coin play continues. Alongside that, a small number of real-money pari-mutuel horse wagering apps accept Mississippi players, which is currently the only way to play for cash from your phone anywhere in the state.

The casino-style sites below are free-to-play. Coins carry no cash value and there is no Sweeps Coin redemption path for Mississippi players. The pari-mutuel platforms listed are real-money horse wagering, separate from casino gaming.

How We Rank the Best Mississippi Online Casinos

Every Mississippi online casino we list is scored with the Bonus Power Index (BPI), our proprietary ranking system. Six weighted categories normally feed each score. Because the casino sites available to Mississippi players carry no redeemable currency, the Sweeps Coins category does not apply, and Mississippi rankings are driven by the five remaining measures.

1

1. Sweeps Coins Value: 30%

Normally our heaviest-weighted BPI category, measuring redeemable coin value against playthrough requirements. It does not apply to the free-play sites listed here, which offer no redemption path to Mississippi players. Every casino site on this page scores as not applicable, which is why Mississippi rankings differ from those in states where Sweeps Coin play continues.

2

Total Game Selection: 20%

We count the full library, not just slots. Depth across slots, table games, live dealer, and instant-win titles determines whether a site holds up past the first week, and how many quality studios supply it matters as much as the raw total.

3

Platform Popularity: 20%

Market adoption is a trust signal you can measure. Sites with large, active player bases have been through more support tickets and more scrutiny than newcomers, and that track record is weighted accordingly.

4

Gold Coins Value: 10%

With no redeemable currency in play, coin value carries more practical weight in Mississippi than it does elsewhere. We score how much play a signup bonus or coin package actually buys, and how quickly free balances refill.

5

App Store Rating: 10%

Most social casino play happens on a phone. We pull live iOS ratings to capture how the app performs for real users on stability, load times, and account access rather than relying on our own devices alone.

6

Overall

Raw BPI inputs are normalized to a 0 to 25 point scale, then converted to a 1 to 5 star rating on a logarithmic curve. That BPI curve rewards proportional improvement, so doubling a small offer moves a score meaningfully while padding an already enormous offer barely registers. A site with no offer in a category scores 0 stars there, the strongest performer earns 5, and everyone else lands proportionally between them. Scores are refreshed as offers, libraries, and app ratings change, and no affiliate relationship affects how any site is scored.

Mississippi Gambling Snapshot: What’s Available?

Mississippi has had legal casinos since 1990 and a lottery since 2019, and it has authorized almost nothing online. Here is where every category stands.

Online Casino Games in Mississippi

Some leading sweepstakes casinos now offer more than 1,000 games. Slots generally dominate their ranges, but you can also find table games and other games at certain sites. They source their games from the same studios that supply real money online casinos in other markets. Some operators, such as Chumba Casino, host exclusive games created at their in-house software development studios.

Slots in Mississippi

Real slots online are the primary focus at sweepstakes online casinos in Mississippi. In fact, some sites and apps exclusively host slots. Other online casinos host table games, but slots still account for over 90% of the selection. These are the main reasons why slots are so popular among casino players in Mississippi.

  • Accessibility: Slots are straightforward games of chance, highly accessible, and very easy to understand. You just need to spin the reel and hope that certain symbols appear on a payline. However, they also come with lots of exciting bonus features, which ensure that slots remain entertaining.
  • Variety: You can play a huge variety of slots at the best online casinos in Mississippi. They range from old-school, three-reel slots to new 3D slots that offer a range of dazzling features. You can play bonus buy slots, cluster pays slots, and much more. There are low, medium, and high volatility slots, too. The slots category is diverse, and exciting new games arrive regularly as rival suppliers compete to create the most innovative slots.
  • Themes: There are also themes to suit every player. You can play Wild West slots, Ancient Egypt slots, games focused on popular movies, fishing slots, simple slots with gems or fruit, and many more themes.
  • Jackpots: Progressive jackpot slots appeal to players hoping to land a large payout. A portion of each bet placed goes into the pot, and it grows until one lucky player lands the top prize. There are fixed jackpot slots, too.
  • Limits: Slots cater to most budgets, from penny slots to high-roller casino slots.

Table Games in Mississippi

You can play virtual table games at certain sweepstakes casinos. They use random number generators (RNG) to provide the results. The RNG software is regularly tested for fairness and accuracy. These are some of the most common virtual table games at online casinos available in Mississippi:

You will often be able to play table poker and video poker, too.

Live Dealer Games in Mississippi

A growing number of social platforms run live dealer casino games, with a real dealer running the action from a studio and streaming it to you, usually with a chat function. Live blackjack, live roulette, and live baccarat are the most common, with prize wheel formats on the deeper platforms.

More Mississippi Online Casino Games

Some Mississippi online casinos also offer bingo games. You may find keno and Slingo, along with scratch-cards, virtual sports, and variety games such as Crash games and Mines.

History of Gambling in Mississippi

Mississippi built one of the country’s largest casino industries from scratch in a single decade, then spent the next three decades protecting it. That protective instinct explains nearly every online gambling outcome in the state since.

Pre-Civil War: Riverboats and racetracks

French settlers build makeshift tracks and riverboat gambling flourishes along the Mississippi. The operations are notorious for cheating, and officials crack down hard after the war. Gambling goes underground for roughly a century.

1990: The Gaming Control Act

HB 2 legalizes dockside casino gambling and creates the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Casinos must sit on water, which is why the industry clusters on the Gulf Coast and along the river rather than in Jackson.

1992 onward: Tunica booms

Casinos open rapidly in Tunica County and along the coast, transforming both regions economically and making Mississippi the third-largest casino state in the country at its peak.

1994 onward: Choctaw gaming

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians opens Silver Star, later adding Golden Moon and Bok Homa under Class III compacts.

2005: Katrina and the law change

Hurricane Katrina destroys much of the Gulf Coast casino infrastructure. Lawmakers respond by allowing coastal casinos to rebuild up to 800 feet inland rather than on barges, reshaping the coast market permanently.

2017: DFS is legalized

HB 967 makes fantasy sports contests permanently legal and regulated, an early move nationally.

May 2018: Sports betting arrives fast

Mississippi releases draft sports wagering regulations within hours of the Supreme Court striking down the federal ban, having already laid groundwork in a 2017 DFS bill. Retail books open that August. Mobile is restricted to casino grounds from the start.

2019: The lottery finally launches

Mississippi ends decades as a lottery holdout, with retail sales only.

2023: HB 606 studies the question

The legislature directs 13 lawmakers to conduct a comprehensive analysis of online sports betting. The study does not translate into passage.

February 2025: The Senate moves first on sweeps

Mississippi’s Senate becomes the first legislative chamber in the country to approve a sweepstakes casino ban, passing SB 2510 unanimously. The House amends it to add online sports betting authorization, the Senate rejects the amendment, and the bill dies in conference.

June 2025: The Gaming Commission acts

The MGC issues a cease-and-desist letter to Chumba Casino. Over the following months, VGW ends Sweeps Coin play in Mississippi and other operators geofence the state or disable redeemable play.

February 2026: Both bills pass their chambers, again

The Senate approves SB 2104 by 52-0 on February 6, this time with explicit sweepstakes definitions and felony penalties of up to $100,000 and 10 years. The House separately passes HB 1581 to legalize online sports betting, 85-31, deliberately keeping the two issues apart after the 2025 collapse.

March 2026: Both die

SB 2104 stalls in the House Gaming Committee on March 3. HB 1581 never receives a Senate Gaming Committee hearing. Sen. David Blount argues the bill would have cut state gaming tax revenue by nearly $20 million because of a casino tax break attached to it, and that prediction markets would erode online betting revenue anyway.

May 2026: The AG weighs in on prediction markets

Attorney General Lynn Fitch joins a multistate coalition arguing states should retain authority over sports event contracts. Mississippi takes no enforcement action of its own.

Looking Ahead

The 2027 session will likely bring a fourth online sports betting bill from Rep. Casey Eure and possibly a third sweepstakes ban from the Senate. Neither has cleared both chambers yet, and the obstacle in each case is the same: a land-based casino industry that carries the Gulf Coast economy and sees every online product as competition.

Retail Casinos in Mississippi

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is one of the five largest casino gaming markets in the United States, according to the American Gaming Association. The Mississippi Gaming Control Act permits 30 state-regulated casinos to operate. They must be located dockside, so they are primarily clustered on the Gulf Coast or alongside the Mississippi River. Some of the largest casinos in the state include Island View Casino Resort in Gulfport, Beau Rivage in Biloxi, and IP Casino Resort in Biloxi.

A report from the American Gaming Association revealed that the Mississippi Gulf Coast became the fifth-largest casino gaming market in the country in 2022. It accounted for $1.6 billion of the $2.6 billion in revenue generated by Mississippi’s retail casinos that year.

Mississippi Online Casinos: Bottom Line

Mississippi gives you real games without real stakes online. The social casinos ranked above run the same slots and table titles licensed by regulated operators in Michigan and New Jersey, hand out coins at signup, and refill your balance daily. They just cannot pay you, and as of mid-2025 that is true across the board here.

The change came from the regulator rather than the legislature. Mississippi never banned sweepstakes casinos, and two Senate-passed bills to do so have died in the House. But a cease-and-desist letter from the Gaming Commission in June 2025 was enough for operators to switch off Sweeps Coin play for Mississippi rather than argue the point. If you find a site still offering redemptions to Mississippi players, treat that as an operator with an unusual risk appetite rather than a loophole.

For real money, your options are narrow and physical. Sports betting works only while you are standing inside a licensed casino. The lottery is retail only. Pari-mutuel horse wagering apps and prediction markets are the only real-money products available statewide from a phone, and the second of those exists because federal regulation has so far kept states out of it.

None of this is likely to shift soon. The House keeps passing online sports betting and the Senate keeps declining to hear it, three years running now, because the casino industry that built the Gulf Coast economy views mobile play as a threat to its floors. That same logic is why iGaming has never been introduced at all.

Mississippi Online Casinos FAQ

Real money online casinos are not legal in Mississippi and have never been authorized. Free-to-play social casinos are available and offer slots, table games, and instant-win titles using virtual coins with no cash value.

Not in practice. Mississippi has no sweepstakes ban on the books, but the Gaming Commission issued a cease-and-desist to Chumba Casino in June 2025 and operators responded by disabling Sweeps Coin play for Mississippi players or leaving the state. Gold Coin play continues on the sites that remain.

No, though it has come close twice. The Senate passed SB 2510 unanimously in 2025 and SB 2104 by 52-0 in February 2026, the second of which would have made operating or promoting an online sweepstakes casino a felony carrying up to $100,000 in fines and 10 years in prison. Both died in the House. The 2026 bill stalled in the House Gaming Committee on March 3.

Not at a casino-style site. The real-money options available statewide are pari-mutuel horse wagering apps and prediction market platforms. Casino wagering for cash requires being physically inside a licensed Mississippi casino.

Only on casino grounds. You can use a sportsbook app while physically located at a licensed Mississippi casino, and it stops working when you leave. Statewide mobile betting has failed three years in a row, most recently when HB 1581 passed the House 85-31 in February 2026 and never got a Senate Gaming Committee hearing.

The Senate Gaming Committee chair has consistently blocked it, arguing the land-based casino industry is too central to the state’s economy and tourism to risk. In 2026 he also argued the specific bill would have reduced state gaming tax revenue by nearly $20 million because of a casino tax break attached to it, and that prediction markets would siphon off the projected online betting revenue regardless.

Yes. Kalshi, Polymarket, and Crypto.com operate in the state under federal CFTC regulation. Attorney General Lynn Fitch joined a multistate coalition in May 2026 arguing states should have authority over sports event contracts, but Mississippi has not sued or issued cease-and-desist orders.

Roughly 26 licensed commercial casinos, all dockside along the Gulf Coast or the Mississippi River, plus three casinos operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. The Gulf Coast alone ranks among the five largest casino markets in the country.

21 for casinos, sports betting, pari-mutuel wagering, daily fantasy contests, and the lottery. Mississippi has no 18-and-up gaming category. Social casino sites set their own minimums.

Social casinos are unlicensed but carry no financial exposure, since there is no cash in play. That makes the operator’s own track record the thing to check, which is part of what platform popularity measures in our scoring. Mississippi’s casinos, sportsbooks, and fantasy operators are regulated by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
