What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. At least that’s what YouTube celebrity MrBeast is hoping.
Based on customer complaints that have reached an outcry, a MrBeast branded three-day experience last week held at Resorts World Las Vegas was a failure as big as his online following, which is approaching half a billion across many social media channels. Consumers paid as much as $1,000 for the event, and some complained they were told to wait for a special gift package in their hotel room which ended up being nothing more than some sweets and a tee-shirt not even a cheap grandmother would bring back from her vacation for you.
Any time the words “false advertising” are attached to an event, as they have been for the MrBeast Experience at this Las Vegas resort, it’s not good for the brand.
MrBeast responded to a complaint from a patron who attended the MrBeast Experience with his tail between his legs, saying the event “definitely isn’t the experience we hoped they’d deliver.” Credit points for taking responsibility, I guess.
‘Immersive’ experiences don’t always live up to the hype
Sadly for MrBeast (who was born with the less impressive name Jimmy Donaldson), the event in Las Vegas may take its place alongside other infamous debacles such as the aborted 2017 Fyre Festival, Willy’s Chocolate Experience last year in Scotland, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy (sorry, not sorry Disney…)
The MrBeast Experience was supposed to give attendees a taste of games, thrills, and big prizes like the popular YouTube channel that currently has close to 400 million followers. The website, which has since been blacked out, promised a chance to win as much as $10,000, as well as “unforgettable” experiences and exclusive access to content and merchandise. Instead, MrBeast made only a short appearance, and the organizer of the event was cornered by angry attendees demanding a refund.
“It should have been like mini-games, meet and greets, photo ops, special drinks, and things. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any of that.” MrBeast Experience attendee Theresa Metta told CBS News via BBC.
MrBeast has apparently told fans on social media that he’ll be inviting anyone who was affected that they’ll get a tour of his studio instead.
