What Is a Lottery Numbers Generator?

A lottery numbers generator uses a computer-based randomization process to select numbers within the rules of a particular lottery game. For games like Powerball and Mega Millions, it creates a set of main numbers and a separate bonus number. For Pick 3 and Pick 4, it generates a sequence of digits.

Different lottery games use varying structures. Powerball, for example, tasks the player with choosing five numbers from 1 through 69, and one bonus number from 1 to 26. Pick 3, on the other hand, draws three numbers from 0 through 9.

The resulting numbers can be used to complete an entry for the corresponding lottery game. A generator does not predict winning numbers or improve the probability of winning.

Why Use a Lottery Number Generator?

A lottery number generator makes it faster to choose numbers without relying on birthdays, anniversaries, or other personal favorites. Each valid number combination has the same chance of winning, so generating numbers is simply an alternative to choosing them manually. You can use a generated combination for a single drawing or keep playing the same numbers in future drawings. Just remember that no selection method can improve the odds of winning.

Generate Numbers For The Best Online Lotteries

Powerball Lottery

Powerball functions as one of the two biggest national lotteries available to US lottery players. The Powerball lottery operates in 45 US states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball expanded internationally on July 21, 2026, when ticket sales launched in the United Kingdom.

Since its inception in April 1992, Powerball has produced some of the biggest lottery jackpots in US history. A November 2022 drawing resulted in a $2.04 billion jackpot won by a single ticket in California, the largest lottery jackpot in history.

Powerball’s most recent billion-dollar jackpots include $1.817 billion won in Arkansas on Christmas Eve 2025, $1.787 billion split between tickets in Missouri and Texas in September 2025, and $1.04 billion won by a single Illinois ticket on Aug. 12, 2026. That August 2026 run was the first Powerball jackpot to include UK players, and Powerball expects the expanded player pool to push jackpots higher and faster going forward. All of the top five Powerball jackpots of all time paid out at least $1.586 billion.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play in the US, and drawings are held three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights. Five numbers are randomly selected from numbers 1 through 69, and a separate Powerball red number is drawn from numbers 1 through 26.

To win the Powerball grand prize, players must correctly select all five standard white numbers, plus the red Powerball number. The odds of selecting all six numbers correctly are 1 in 292,201,338. By using our Powerball lottery number generator, you can choose your five numbers plus the red Powerball number.

Mega Millions Lottery

Along with Powerball, Mega Millions stands as one of two major multi-state lotteries in the US. Mega Millions is available in 45 states, Washington DC, and the US Virgin Islands.

Like Powerball, Mega Millions jackpots represent some of the biggest lottery payouts ever awarded. The largest jackpot in Mega Millions history paid $1.602 billion to a single winner from an August 2023 drawing in Florida, followed by the $1.537 billion prize won in South Carolina in October 2018 and the $1.269 billion won in California in December 2024. Mega Millions has produced seven jackpots above $1 billion, spread across Florida, South Carolina, New Jersey, Maine, Illinois, Michigan, and California.

Mega Millions conducts two drawings per week, on Tuesday and Friday nights. Tickets cost $5 following an April 2025 overhaul that introduced a built-in multiplier of 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X for non-jackpot prizes. The multiplier is assigned automatically to each play, replacing the former optional Megaplier feature. Each drawing that goes by without a jackpot winner escalates the grand prize.

Mega Millions draws five white balls from one machine, with the machine containing one ball for each number 1 through 70. A separate machine contains gold “bonus” balls, marked with numbers 1 through 24.

To win the Mega Millions grand prize, players must correctly pick all five white ball numbers, as well as the gold bonus number. The probability of winning the Mega Millions grand prize is 1 in 290,472,336, improved from the pre-2025 odds of 1 in 302,575,350. Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 23.

SuperLotto Plus

SuperLotto Plus offers a California-only drawing game that plays much like Powerball and Mega Millions. Unlike those national lotteries, however, SuperLotto Plus tickets can only be purchased within California.

SuperLotto Plus tickets cost $1 per play, with drawings held every Wednesday and Saturday night. Jackpots start at $7 million and increase when no ticket matches all six numbers.

To win the grand prize jackpot, players must match all five standard numbers and the separate Mega number. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 41,416,353. Standard picks come from numbers 1 through 47, while the bonus ball is drawn from numbers 1 through 27.

SuperLotto Plus functions as part of the California Lottery. The largest jackpot paid out in the history of SuperLotto Plus took place in 2002, with three different tickets splitting the $193 million grand prize.

Pick 3 & Pick 4 Lotteries

Pick 3 and Pick 4 lotteries are offered in many US states, usually as daily drawing games, though some states brand them differently (Daily 3 and Daily 4 in Michigan and California, for example). Both of these games challenge the player to correctly pick randomly drawn numbers from ten balls, with one ball for each number zero through nine.

To win the biggest prize, known as “straight,” players must pick the numbers in the exact order dictated by the drawing. Picking all correct numbers, but not in the correct order, results in a “box” win, which doesn’t pay out as well as the “straight” win.

Pick 3 and Pick 4 games generally play with set jackpot amounts, and not progressive escalating grand prizes.

The History of Online Lottery in the US

Historians point to the origins of lotteries in the US going as far back as the early 1700s. Newspaper ads from the era advertised hundreds of different lotteries.

The first modern-era lottery in the US was introduced by Puerto Rico in 1934. New Hampshire became the first US state to operate a lottery in 1964.

For decades, the 1961 Wire Act was widely read as barring online lottery sales across state lines. In 2011, the US Department of Justice issued an opinion concluding the Act applies only to sports betting. The DOJ reversed that view in 2018, but a federal appeals court sided with New Hampshire’s lottery in 2021, keeping online lottery sales legal.

The 2011 opinion opened the door for US states to offer online lottery purchases. Illinois became the first state to sell lottery tickets online, launching a pilot program for Lotto and Mega Millions on March 25, 2012. Georgia followed in November 2012, Michigan in 2014, and Pennsylvania in 2018. Other states have taken a different route: Arizona has no state-run online platform, but licensed courier services like Jackpocket and Jackpot.com deliver official Arizona online lottery tickets ordered from a phone.

Is It Safe to Buy Lottery Tickets Using a Number Generator?

State lotteries in the US operate independently from one another. All state lotteries function as government programs and, as such, operate as extensions of state-level governments.

National lotteries like Mega Millions and Powerball function as consortiums among participating states. Powerball is operated by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), while Mega Millions is administered by the Mega Millions Group, a consortium of the participating lotteries. Tickets for both are sold in 45 states plus additional US jurisdictions.

Official state lotteries and participating multi-state games are subject to government oversight, published game rules, and drawing procedures designed to protect the integrity of the results.

Using a lottery numbers generator provides a safe way to pick truly random numbers, with unbiased and unique outputs for each use. We can’t promise a win, but the numbers are random and safe to use.

One thing to be clear on: a number generator is a tool for picking numbers, not a place to buy tickets. Bonus.com does not sell lottery entries. Take your generated numbers to a licensed retailer, your state’s official iLottery platform, or a licensed courier.

The Bottom Line

Lottery number generators take the guesswork out of filling in a play slip. Every combination in a Powerball or Mega Millions drawing carries identical odds, so a randomly generated line has exactly the same chance of hitting as birthdays, anniversaries, or any set of numbers you have played for years. What a generator offers is speed and a way to choose numbers without relying on familiar dates, patterns, or personal favorites.

Some players deliberately avoid popular number patterns, such as birthdays and consecutive sequences, because matching a combination chosen by other winners could mean sharing a jackpot. A generator can help you move beyond your usual picks, although it cannot guarantee that your numbers are unpopular or that a prize will not be split.

Use the Powerball, Mega Millions, SuperLotto Plus, Pick 3, and Pick 4 generators above to create lottery number combinations, then enter your picks through an authorized lottery retailer or eligible online lottery platform. No tool can improve your odds of winning, but a generator is a fast, unbiased way to get your numbers locked in before the next drawing.

Online Lottery Number Generator FAQ

Yes, in states that have authorized it. A 2011 US Department of Justice opinion concluded the Wire Act applies only to sports betting, which opened the door for states to sell lottery tickets online. The DOJ reversed that view in 2018, but a 2021 federal appeals court ruling kept online lottery sales legal.

States that allow it can sell tickets online for both in-state games and national lotteries like Powerball and Mega Millions. Illinois became the first state to sell lottery tickets online in March 2012. In some other states, licensed courier services buy official tickets on your behalf.

Yes. Lottery number generators, like the one available at Bonus.com, are legal to use for picking lottery numbers. There are no laws in place banning the use of lottery number generators.

Different random number generators (RNG) use different methods to produce outputs. A truly random RNG will use unpredictable input, like atmospheric noise, mouse movements, or subatomic activity, to produce truly random numbers.

Other RNG programs use complex computer algorithms to produce “pseudorandom” numbers. These numbers are generated deterministically from an initial value, or seed, but a properly designed pseudorandom number generator can produce outputs that are difficult to predict. For lottery number selection, the important point is that no generator can predict the results of an official drawing.

Yes. You can use the Generate button again to create another set of lottery numbers. Repeat the process as often as you like to get additional combinations for the same game or switch to another lottery generator.

Each state’s lottery is run and regulated by its own state lottery agency or commission, operating as a government program. Proceeds fund causes set by each state, such as public education, infrastructure, and veterans’ services.

Multi-state games are run jointly by the participating state lotteries. Powerball is operated through the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), while Mega Millions is run by a consortium of its member lotteries.

18 in most states. The minimum purchase age for state lotteries, as well as national lotteries like Mega Millions and Powerball, is 18 in most states.

The exceptions are Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, and Mississippi, where players must be 21 or older, and Nebraska, where the minimum age is 19.

Yes, at the federal level. Lottery winnings count as taxable income, and prizes over $5,000 are subject to 24% federal withholding at the time of payout, with more potentially owed at tax time depending on your bracket. State taxes vary: some states tax lottery winnings as regular income, while others, including California, Delaware, and states with no income tax, don’t tax them at all. Our gambling and taxes guide covers the details.
