New York Real Money Online Casinos — Which Sites to Expect

New York online casino players can expect real money online casinos in the near future, with the recent introduction of the companion New York online casino bill by Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow. While we don’t have a definitive date for when New York might legalize , it’s good to know what to expect in the state if NY lawmakers decide to expand the state’s gambling laws.

Real Money Online Casinos Coming to New York

New York still needs to legalize real money online casinos to become one of the few states that offer the option. Once New York’s online casino market goes live, you can expect some of the top brands to enter the fray and bring New York online casino bonuses to players in the Empire State. Here are four of the top contenders:

BetMGM Casino

BetMGM logo

BetMGM’s offering is backed by a massive land-based casino conglomerate, so its portfolio is expansive and ever-growing. The online casino is, simply put, one of the best you can find in any legal market. When BetMGM Casino New York launches, it will likely be one of the best options for players in the state.

Bolstered by an incredible slots library, live dealer games, table game options, and more, BetMGM is a top recommendation for almost any online casino player.

The welcome bonus at BetMGM varies by state. In New York upon launch, we expect it will include a deposit match—likely 100% up to $2,000 or more—and a no deposit bonus of around $25 or so. We’ll update this page when we know more, but that’s a good starting point if you’re trying to predict BetMGM NY’s online casino bonus.

BetRivers Casino

BetRivers Casino Cube Logo

BetRivers is a well-known name in the online gambling industry, and they currently operate within all of the states that have legalized online casinos. Across the river in New Jersey, they’re popular due to their large game catalog and extensive selection of promotions for both new and existing players. Being that they’re already in a neighboring state and already have a presence in other states, we fully expect BetRivers Casino New York to launch when things go live.

The BetRivers Casino welcome bonus in New Jersey consists of a 100% deposit match up to $500 in Bonus Money, which is lower than some other offerings in The Garden State, but also allows newer players to get a headstart regardless. We expect a similar offer when New York launches. Additional terms and conditions apply.

DraftKings Casino

draftkings logoDraftKings may be best known as a sportsbook, but the company has carved a name for itself in the casino space, too. The online casino sets itself apart with interesting game themes unique to the platform. Plus, DraftKings Casino New York players will get access to one of the most streamlined and functional apps available in any online gambling market.

DraftKings offers a casino bonus that starts with $35 in Casino Credits on deposit and a Play $1 and Get $100 Back in Casino Credits Instantly offer.

FanDuel Casino

FanDuel LogoWherever legal online casinos pop up, you can be sure you’ll find FanDuel there. FanDuel is an excellent all-in-one choice, and the FanDuel Sportsbook already operates in the Empire State. For those reasons, we do expect to see FanDuel Casino New York as an option when legalized.

In already legal states, FanDuel offers a nice rebate offer for new players that consists of a $1,000 Play it Again Bonus for the first 24 hours of play. And, what makes this (and other offers) so sweet is that FanDuel only holds a 1x playthrough requirement for all bonus funds.

Additional terms and conditions apply.

The Latest: New York Online Casino Legislation & Legalization

  • Jun. 2024: With the end of the legislative session on June 6, the bill to legalize online casinos is dead. We expect it to be re-introduced in the next session.
  • May 2024: Most recently, S.B. 8185 still remains in the committee, but is absent from the upcoming agenda. With this legislative session ending on June 6, it seems unlikely that progress will be made. This lack of progress is due to opposition from the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (HTC), which operates as the state’s retail casino workers union.
  • Feb. 2024: Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow introduced A.B. 9198, the Assembly’s companion bill to S.B. 8185.
  • Jan. 2024: On Jan. 11, Sen. Addabbo filed S.B. 8185 in another attempt to get the ball rolling on legalization. This came after he killed S.B. 4856 to start anew earlier in the month.
  • Feb. 2023: As the previous bill (S.B. 8412) failed to find a place in the 2022 legislative session, Sen. Addabbo introduced S.B. 4856 as another attempt to legalize online casinos.
  • Feb. 2022: New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo introduced S.B. 8412, a bill that made a first attempt to legalize New York online casinos.

Online Casino Games in New York

New York online casino players have access to hundreds of slots at casino-style sites like WOW Vegas above. You do not need to make a purchase to play free slots at these sites, and you can redeem premium coins for cash prizes. Some players at the best sites above have walked away with six-figure cash prizes, with some progressive jackpot slots online in New York totally close to a million. We’ll talk more about those progressive jackpots in the next section.

Many of the New York sweepstakes and social casinos above offer entire sections of progressive jackpot slots. These slots offer massive win potential as the jackpots continue to grow as they’re played until one lucky winner takes all, and they are often featured on the biggest slots wins. Jackpots can range in size, and many slots offer multiple tiers of jackpots.

As the most popular table game at retail casinos in New York, players can expect access to online blackjack at all casinos online except for those that are slots-only. Players enjoy blackjack for the great odds, straightforward strategy, and exciting side bets, all of which can be found at NY online casinos.

Players can also play roulette, the iconic casino game where players guess where the ball will land. Many sweepstakes and social casinos offer roulette, with some offering social live dealer roulette options as well, where players can hop into a live-streamed game that utilizes a real dealer with a real roulette wheel.

Table Games

Although blackjack and roulette are widely considered the most popular options, those aren’t the only table games you’ll find in New York. Some of the sweepstakes casinos on this page do offer games like baccarat and pai gow, although you may have to do some digging to find them.

More Casino Games

Players can also find a variety of unique games at sweepstakes and social casinos, many of which don’t even make an appearance at land-based retail casinos. These include titles such as Keno, Dice, Casino War, Plinko, and many more. They are often referred to as “Originals”.

How We Rank the Best New York Online Casinos

    Licensed & Regulated

First and foremost, all New York online casinos we review must be licensed and regulated by a legitimate authority. If they are not a legal online casino or legitimate sweepstakes casino, they won’t be considered for our list, period.

      Security & Data Protection

Next, we take a look at security and data protection. We want to ensure that any New York online casino we recommend protects its players’ personal and financial information. We also want to make sure that they utilize strong encryption on their website.

      Game Selection

Now that the two most important parts are out of the way, we take a look at game selection. Not only do we consider whether or not they have slots, table games, and live dealer games, but also the variety within each category. We look at themes, minimum and maximum bets, features, and more.

      Welcome Offers

When we can, we will always try to negotiate an exclusive welcome offer for our players. Even when we can’t, we take into consideration each online casino’s welcome offer. This includes looking past the initial dollar amount at the terms and conditions to ensure that the bonus is fair and attainable, amongst other considerations.

      Loyalty & Rewards Program

While not mandatory, a solid loyalty & rewards program adds a lot to the player experience. When ranking, we look at whether or not a program is offered, how points and credits are earned, and what those points can be redeemed for.

Every online casino operator holds a reputation, whether it’s from other states or even other countries. When our casino experts are ranking New York online casinos, they utilize their knowledge of those online casinos from other legal states to make decisions.

History of Gambling in New York

Like many other states, the history of legal gambling in New York begins with pari-mutuel wagering, which began on Apr. 15, 1940. Following that, the New York Lottery launched in 1967, earlier than many other states around the country. After some time, with no further advancements, the first land-based casino in the state, Turning Stone Resort Casino, opened for business in 1993. Since then, a plethora of land-based casinos have opened throughout the state. The first retail sportsbooks began to open in NY in 2019.

As for online gambling, the story began when the New York state government began to lay out the framework for online NY sportsbooks in 2021. Online sports betting officially launched in New York in early Jan. 2022. Almost immediately, NY surpassed Nevada and NJ with $2.4 billion in wagers in the first five weeks of betting. On the other hand, the legalization of real money online casino gambling in the state has traveled a windy and complicated road. We’ve laid out the most up-to-date NY online casino legislation in the “New York Online Casino Legislation” section higher up on this page.

New York Online Casinos – Bottom Line

New York online casinos are clearly on the horizon with an advocate like Sen. Addabbo on their side. It appears that 2024 could be the year that legalization finally passes in the state, opening up the possibility of real money online casinos for New York players. In the meantime, however, players already have the ability to play at sweepstakes and social casinos as well as take part in New York online lottery and online sports betting, which is a nice variety of current gambling options.
