The 2023 Academy Awards are slated for Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET, so the Oscars betting odds are officially in and ready for action, and all the big ones are listed below.

Plus, those looking to get in on one of Tinseltown’s biggest awards shows are covered on how to bet on the Oscars this year, including some picks for you to consider.

How To Bet on the Oscars 2023

Oscars betting is legally available in Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, and New Jersey via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook. The current Oscars betting odds are available at each sportsbook below.

However, there is a chance that Fliff Sports Picks, available in almost all US states, will offer Oscars betting odds. Fliff is a social sportsbook where players can win cash prizes by making the right picks. Check out the Fliff promo code to learn more and get started.

It’s never a good idea to bet at illegal betting sites, which are notorious for stealing player money and selling personal information. If you’re not in one of those states, we recommend sticking to an Oscars pool between friends or giving Fliff a try.

Fanduel Oscars Betting

In a few categories, FanDuel Oscars betting offers better odds than DraftKings, and vice versa. Keep in mind that the odds will change the closer we get to the 2023 Academy Awards, but at the time of writing, the Best Picture odds on Everything Everywhere All at Once was -260 at FanDuel and -300 at DraftKings, making the win potential better at FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, DraftKings has better odds on a bunch of the acting categories, which is why odds shopping is a great strategy (more on that and other tips to bet on the Oscars below).

Oscars Betting Odds Tips

1. Shop for the Best Oscars Betting Odds

In states where it’s available, BetMGM, Caesars, and more of the best online sportsbooks will almost certainly offer Oscars betting odds closer to the start of the event. At a minimum, you have DraftKings and FanDuel, which offer different odds on the nominees. Before you place a bet, make sure you’re getting the biggest win potential.

2. Past Trends Aren’t Necessarily a Good Guide

A lot of Oscars betting strategies involve looking at past trends to determine who has the best chance of winning. These include:

  • Considering the Golden Globe winners
  • Winning Best Director and/or Best Screenplay means a better chance at winning Best Picture
  • A popular actor will be rewarded for not having won an Oscar yet (like Leo the year he won for The Revenant (2015))

But these trends have been bucked in the past. Argo (2012) won Best Picture and its director, Ben Affleck, wasn’t even nominated. Martin Scorcese only has one Oscar despite being nominated nine times, and he even lost Best Director to Kevin Costner in 1991. And who can forget when Moonlight (2016) upset La La Land (2016) for Best Picture, the trophies literally taken out of the La La Land producers’ hands and handed to the Moonlight team?

If there’s any trend to pay attention to, it’s that ignoring trends can often mean a big win.

3. Don’t Ignore Your Feelings

Ignoring past trends also means trusting your gut. If an actor’s performance blew you away, it’s likely that the Academy voters were impressed as well. The Oscars betting odds are largely based on what bettors think will win, not necessarily what’s the most likely outcome. If you’re convinced one deserves it over another, why not throw a few bucks on it?

4. See All the Movies

You can’t exactly trust your gut if you haven’t seen all the movies. It can be somewhat challenging to see every nominated film if there are still some in theaters. But if you haven’t seen the competition, it’s probably a good idea not to bet on it.

For best shorts, a lot of theaters (especially indie theaters) show a compilation of all the shorts, and it can be one of the most enjoyable movie experiences you have all year. And you’ll be tapped into a category few others are privy to, giving you an edge on the betting odds.

5. Find the High-Value Bets

A strategy I like to employ when I bet on the Oscars is looking for solid contenders with plus-money odds. Here are some examples from the DraftKings Oscars betting odds:

  • Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once): +120 odds
  • Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans): +160 odds
  • Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin): +370 odds

These are three areas where the second most likely to win have very solid win potential. There’s also a few favorites with plus-money odds, including Le Pupille for Best Live-Action Short (+125) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for Best Costume Design (+100).
