New Jersey has led the gambling expansion charge in the US. It was six years ahead of any other state in creating a multi-operator online casino market, having launched in 2013. It was also the force behind the legal challenge that ultimately led to the repeal of the federal prohibition on sports betting in 2018. There are now roughly 30 online gambling brands operating in New Jersey and its regulatory policies have served as a model for other states’ legalization efforts.
