Sports betting became legal in Florida on October 15, 2021, and Hard Rock Sportsbook was the first to launch a mobile betting app on November 1. Hard Rock launched its sportsbook app in partnership with the Seminole Tribe, despite lingering controversy and legal trouble in the state.

However, shortly thereafter, a judge ruled that the agreement between the Seminole Tribe and the state was against Florida’s constitution. The Hard Rock Sportsbook Florida discontinued only a month after it launched.

When will online sportsbooks return to Florida?  That is a huge question that many bettors wonder.  The appeals process is lengthy, and the question is yet to be placed on a ballot. So, legal online sports betting in Florida appears to be a long way off.

Florida could become the biggest state by population with legal online sportsbooks. The practice is illegal in California and Texas, which sets Florida up to become the most significant online sports betting market in the country. Billions in taxes could come to the state, and the Seminole Tribe of Florida would be in charge of all operations.

For now, though, Florida sports enthusiasts are in luck, thanks to the recent launch of the social sportsbook Fliff.

Fliff Sportsbook
Fliff Sportsbook Review

4.5

At present, the only legal sportsbook in Florida is Fliff Sports Betting. It offers all of the traditional sports bets you could ask for, such as moneyline, totals, spread, and props.  It also allows you to redeem winnings for cash prizes, often are typically higher than traditional DFS sites.

Given the legal quagmire for sports betting in the Sunshine State, it may seem surprising that any sportsbook would be allowed. However, Fliff uses a different model, which allows it to operate legally in almost all states, even those with no forms of online gambling.

Fliff is a social sportsbook, and it operates like the best sweepstakes casinos in the US.  You play with two different forms of fake currency. Fliff Coins are just for fun, practice, bragging rights, etc. However, if you play with Fliff Cash, you can redeem your winnings for cash prizes.

Another element that keeps Fliff legal (and is a huge win for sports bettors) is that you can play completely for free. You get Fliff Coins and Fliff Cash in many ways. You get some currency just by making an account and as a daily login bonus. You can also get some through promotions, such as completing challenges on the app and winning social media contests.

If you choose to, you can also purchase Fliff Coins. Every purchase will unlock free Fliff Cash as well. In fact, new users get a great deal on their first purchase with promo code SHARP. Any purchase unlocks 600,000 Fliff Coin and is matched 100% up to $100 in Fliff Cash. Register for a Fliff Sports Betting account at this link.

        Florida Sports Betting Bonuses, Explained

        Second Chance Bet

A second chance bet offer means that if you lose your first bet, it’s refunded. In some cases, like at Barstool Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook, the refund comes in the form of bonus bets with a set value. Read the terms and conditions of the specific Florida sportsbook to know how the refund works.

But if the first bet wins, you receive your wager and winnings. You can then withdraw or continue betting–your choice.

        Deposit-Match Welcome Bonus

A few sports betting apps in Florida will offer a deposit-match bonus of a certain percentage up to a maximum amount. Here are two examples:

        • BetRivers Florida Sportsbook: 100% bonus up to $500
        • DraftKings Sportsbook Florida: 20% bonus up to $1,000

Both have their own set of terms and conditions. For example, BetRivers requires you to bet all of your deposit and bonus amount one time before you can withdraw any winnings. DraftKings credits your account with $1 in bonus money for every $25 wagered.

        Odds Boosters

The most common ongoing promotion at Florida’s online sportsbooks will be the odds boosters. The sports betting apps will increase the profit potential for select events, usually surrounding some of the most popular games. In some cases, it’s an offer for new members, such as the FanDuel Sportsbook 55 to 1 odds on the winner of the Super Bowl.

        Sports Bet Insurance

Another common promotion, bet insurance refunds all or part of a wager depending on how events play out. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook offers $25 back on 5-leg parlays across a variety of sports if one leg loses. At PointsBet Sportsbook, you can often get $20 to $25 back if your team loses in overtime.

        Early Cashout

Early cashout is a feature that’s been at European sportsbooks for a few years now and quickly gaining steam in the US. Essentially, you can cancel your bet after you place it to retain some of your wager. For example, if you bet $10 on a football game, then halfway through you think it’s going to lose, you can cash out for $5 and minimize your losses.

        Legal Online Gambling In Florida

While these aren’t technically considered gambling, you have ways to win cash prizes online in Florida. Here are the legal options currently available in Florida:

        • Daily Fantasy Sports: DFS apps like FanDuel and DraftKings offer a great selection of bonuses and promotions for new and existing players.
        • Online Horse Race Betting: Sites like TVG and NYRA Bets offer a wide selection of online horse betting opportunities, including no-deposit signup bonuses and bonus bets. You can even bet on Florida tracks from home.
        • Sweepstakes Casinos: Play a variety of casino games for Sweeps Coins that can be exchanged for gift cards or cash prizes.
        • Sweepstakes Poker Sites: Compete in Ring Games, Tournaments, and Sit ‘n’ Go to win Sweeps Coins that you can exchange for gift cards or cash prizes.

Florida does not have plans to legalize traditional online casinos or real-money online poker sites. But that may gain traction when the state sees a lot of tax income from sports betting revenue.

        Retail Sportsbook Locations In Florida

The Seminole Tribe of Florida may eventually be able to launch both online sports betting apps and brick-and-mortar retail sportsbooks inside their casino. That means you’ll be able to bet in person in the following casinos:

        • Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood
        • Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa
        • Seminole Casino Coconut Creek
        • Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood
        • Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee
        • Seminole Casino Brighton

However, the retail sportsbooks would take some time to open. The casinos may open up self-serve betting kiosks as a result, but you would be able to bet via mobile device from anywhere in Florida, including inside any of those Seminole casinos.

Online Sports Betting Apps In Florida

Sports betting apps in Florida will allow bettors to wager from their mobile devices. Almost all major online sportsbooks offer both Android and iOS apps. However, some may be slow to the rollout, which means placing bets via the web browser version of the platform.

Florida Sportsbook Apps For Apple iOS Devices

You’ll be able to download most Florida sportsbooks as an iOS app. Visit the Apple App Store and search for the sports betting app by name.

Make sure that you’re downloading the one for Florida specifically, as some brands have a different app for each state. For example, BetRivers Illinois is for Illinois bettors only, while BetRivers Iowa is for Iowa bettors only.

Another option is to visit the Florida sportsbook’s website via your mobile device’s web browser, then use the direct link to the App Store provided there.

Florida Sportsbook Apps For Android Devices

The Google Play Store began allowing gambling apps in 2021. So you can usually find your Florida sports betting app in the Google Play Store. If not, you can download it directly from the website. All online sportsbooks in the US have an Android app.

Like with the iOS App, a sportsbook may have different platforms for each state. Make sure you download the Florida sportsbook rather than one from a different state. It may be simply labeled as FL as well.

Florida Online Sportsbooks Via Web Browser

In some rare cases, online sportsbooks are only available via mobile devices. But more often than not, the online sportsbook will have a web browser version, which is accessible on your computer as well as any mobile device.

Placing bets via a web browser has several advantages. You don’t have to take up any space on your device, and if you’re playing on your computer, you can see more lines at once. It’s also far less likely to glitch or freeze during live betting, which is a consistent issue across several sports betting apps.

You can also save your login information through both Safari and Chrome, which makes accessing your account almost as seamless as having an app.

This was part of an agreement with the state. However, that is no longer valid, according to a court ruling, so bettors in Florida will need to wait for
