After Ultimate Poker, the original online poker site in Nevada, was disbanded, WSOP became the state’s sole operator. Launched in September of 2013, WSOP is the biggest legal online poker platform in the country. 

WSOP’s traffic advantage is largely due to its current monopoly on interstate player pooling. This means that unlike sites like PokerStars, WSOP players from Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware can face off against each other.

Other Online Poker Sites Coming to Nevada 

To veteran online poker players, the absence of PokerStars from the Nevada market seems striking. The site, after all, has been one of the first operators in every new market. The site is also loved for its fantastic software. 

Unfortunately, Nevada players should not be expecting PokerStars Nevada to become a reality any time soon. Lawmakers in Nevada took a hard stand against poker sites operating before the notorious Black Friday in 2011, where PokerStars was the chief defendant. 

While Nevada players may not be able to expect a PokerStars entry, a BetMGM poker site is a possibility. Caesars currently has a monopoly on the market with WSOP, so MGM may very well try to compete for some market share with their own site. 

Multijurisdictional Player Pooling 

Currently, only three states have joined the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), a compact allowing for sites to host players from different states simultaneously. These states are Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey. 

However, Michigan has now been accepted into the MSIGA as well. So very soon, once a few final hurdles are cleared, Michiganders will get to enter the cross-border fray as well.

WSOP is the only site currently catering to the MSIGA, meaning players from New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada can all play against each other on the WSOP/888 software.  

In other “ring-fenced” states like Pennsylvania, players are only permitted to play against those who are currently located within their state’s boundaries. 

This limitation creates a real problem for small states like West Virginia. With a population of under 2 million, West Virginia likely does not have a big enough market to entice online poker operators, despite its recent legalization. 

For that reason, getting more states to sign the MSIGA will be imperative for increasing the scope of online poker. It will also benefit players in states that have already signed the agreement, as more states mean more player traffic, which translates to more games offered and bigger payouts.

Do Nevada’s Poker Sites Offer Mobile Apps? 

WSOP has a solid mobile app available for both Android and iOS. The apps work much like the desktop version, with the major advantage of being mobile. On both the desktop and mobile versions of the WSOP app, players will be able to play multi-table tournaments, SNGs, and cash games. The software is speedy and reliable. 

There are, however, a few minor drawbacks to the mobile app. The biggest is that multi-tabling (playing multiple games at once) becomes hard or impossible on the app because you are only permitted to view a single table at a time. On a desktop, a player can view several simultaneously. Selecting bet amounts can also be a bit tedious while playing on a smartphone.
