DK Horse, the first horse racing betting app from DraftKings, is live in 12 states as of March 29. Bonus found those states in the app’s Google Play description and lists them below.

DK Horse is live in:

  • Colorado
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Florida
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • Montana
  • Oregon
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

DraftKings (DraftKings 37,50 -0,79%) first announced the horse racing betting option on Nov. 29, 2022. In that statement that said 21 states would have the app “in the coming months,” the online gambling operator said launches needed licensing and regulatory approvals.

In today’s press release, DraftKings said more state launches would happen by May 6. That’s the date of the Kentucky Derby.

For the moment, DK Horse is a standalone app. That’s perhaps due to the complicated regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing.

Meanwhile, DraftKings is entering a field that already includes competition from BetMGM Horse Racing and FanDuel Racing.

There’s a reason for the interest. Americans wagered $12 billion on thoroughbred races during 2022, according to Equibase.

DK Horse Isn’t Linked to DraftKings Casino, Etc.

For now, DK Horse is a standalone app. Other DraftKings products – DraftKings Casino, DraftKings DFS, and DraftKings Sportsbook – allow gamblers to use a single wallet.

That link to the single wallet is one of DraftKings’ goals, though.

Meanwhile, the standalone app results from a DraftKings and Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) agreement. It means that CDI subsidiary TwinSpires will power DK Horse.

If TwinSpires sounds familiar, it used to be a US online casino and sports betting operator. However, TwinSpires exited markets last year when CDI decided to concentrate on horse racing betting.

DraftKings CEO Jason Robins said in today’s announcement:

Together with Churchill Downs Incorporated, an industry leader with a deep-rooted history in horse racing, we will deliver an innovative, mobile customer experience. Our goal is to provide our customers with best-in-class-sports and gaming products, and we expect DK Horse to provide a fun and new way to engage with renowned races like the upcoming Run for the Roses.

DraftKings says bettors can handicap races, wager, and stream videos of races within their accounts.
